Re: Are there any BIG tests around 10 weeks?
If you decide to do an ultrascreen that's usually between 11 and 14 weeks. Not everyone has these, but if your doctor hasn't brought it up yet, I would ask about it.
Other than that, I didn't have much. My doctor took a lot of blood at the 8 week appt. for various tests, but that was it.

Pardon my ignorance but what exactly is an ultrascreen? It sounds like this is optional. On my first visit my dr tested me for everything under the sun which I believe is normal on the first visit. I was just wondering what and when the next test would be.
Thanks for the info.

Re: Are there any BIG tests around 10 weeks?
I don't think the ultrascreen is optional - it's not invasive. It is a standard barage of tests - measurements, etc. I'm scheduled for mine at 12wks, 2days. You will also get another sono at that time.
What Is Ultra-Screen®? Ultra-Screen® is a First-trimester prenatal screening protocol designed to provide patient specific risk for Down Syndrome, trisomy 18 and other chromosomal abnormalities. Ultra-Screen® combines ultrasound measurement of the fluid accumulation behind the neck of the fetus (nuchal translucency) with maternal serum markers and is the earliest and most effective Down Syndrome screen available.

Thanks for the info. Now that I know the purpose of an Ultra-Screen I can see it's definitely not optional and without a doubt want this test done. Thanks again for all your help!

Just so you know it is optional because the AFP test (usually at 16 weeks or so) tests for ds also

Re: Are there any BIG tests around 10 weeks?
My dr. said the AFP tested for spina bifida. She gave me the Rx to go to the lab for it between 15 and 18 weeks. It's a blood test. I just had the ultrascreen yesterday - it was optional for me but there's no way I would have not done it. It's non-invasive, so why not? They said they get the results in 10-14 days and then fax them to my OB, but my OB told me they usually get them in 7-10 days.

Good point, makes sense.
