are these items necessary?

I'm a FTM and registering for a few things, and I'm curious about whether or not the following items are really necessary..

1. Bottle warmer
2. Sterilizer
3. Diaper Genie

Also, if you could think of anything (aside from obvious items) that you found was great to have, please share!

Not really no. Some people use them and love them. I used the bottle Warner for a long time. But you can easily heat a bottle with hot water under the tap.

I never used a bottle warmer. We use room temperature water with the formula and never had an issue with either of my boys. We sterilized the bottles with boiling water the first time and then used the dish washer so we didn't use a sterilizer either. We used a regular garbage and just emptied it out frequently so no diaper genie

I didn't bottle feed so I didn't use a bottle warmer. The only thing that I used, and still use to this day, is the Diaper Genie. That thing works great, I can't stand stinky diapers. It's not the cheapest way to go but it definitely does the job well.

I am registered for a sterilizer that I would keep at my moms and MILS but I plan to nurse as long as I can.

And I have the diaper dekor pail on my registry. I can use my regular garbage bags but the reviews are great and says it keeps the stink down better than a regular pail.

No. Only one we use is the diaper genie but we could live without it if need be.

We only used the diaper genie, but it's definitely not necessary. Half the time his dirty diapers go in the kitchen garbage anyway.

Re: are these items necessary?

My opinion

1. Bottle warmer - no. I heat a little water in the microwave and then drop the bottle in it. But my mom got me a warmer so I'll give it a shot for this baby
2. Sterilizer - yes. I boiled bottles for awhile with dd1. Waste of time I have a microwave warmer. Love it
3. Diaper Genie - yes. And do not get the arm n hammer pail. Terrible.

My 2 cents:
1. Bottle warmer-no muse a mug with hot water.
2. Sterilizer- no. I used a big pot and boiled everything. Then I used the dishwasher.
3. Diaper pail- yes. And I loved the munchkin arm and hammer pail.

thanks everyone- I have a diaper genie on the registry now, but didn't do the other items. I feel alot of the stuff on those registry checklists are really not needed!

I didnt use the diaper genie with either of my kids. The sterilizer I used maybe once or twice but really just takes up space and you can boil everything instead. I did use the bottle warmer with both kids and planning on it again. It warms up a bottle way way faster than boiling hot water or hot water from the tap and when your baby wants a hot bottle (especially overnight!) you sometimes can't get it to them fast enough! And it takes up hardly any space, I would try it out!

Re: are these items necessary?

The only thing I used for DD1 and will be using for DD2 was a bottle warmer. It was helpful for the middle of the night feedings when we used frozen milk - worked faster than running it under the faucet. It was also easier for people who were watching DD to use rather than me explaining the dynamics between not using the microwave or boiling water Chat Icon

I use the bottle warmer for every feeding and all diapers go into the diaper dekor. I couldn't live without either.

I sterilize by throwing everything into a pot of boiling water.

I never once heated a bottle. I sterilized once and never again so you can easily do it with a pot of water. I did used a diaper pail (lots of different one out there). But I know plenty that did t use one.

Re: are these items necessary?

I had all 3.
With DS1 I used the bottle warmer constantly, used the diaper genie for maybe a month before I started just putting diapers in the regular garbage, and used the sterilizer occasionally but not enough for it to be worth it.
With DS2, I never use the bottle warmer because I BF when I'm with him & when I'm not, he uses the drop-in liner bottles which you can't use in the warmer anyway. I have no clue what I did with my diaper genie (must be around here somewhere, probably in the basement) so haven't used it at all this time, and again I use the sterilizer occasionally but it mostly stays in the box.
