Are you a Yes or No person?

When you are asked if you would like to buy the extended warranty on your last few big purchases?

From a Car to a Cell Phone...

Re: Are you a Yes or No person?

No for anything under $200 or simple to fix.

Yes for anything more expensive or complicated.

ITA! I say no unless it's for larger items (like appliances), then I may consider it and there's a 50/50 chance I might do it...

Re: Are you a Yes or No person?

I'm a maybe person. I have the warranty on my BBQ grill and it's already paid for itself.

On the washer, I just let it go. I'm sure I'll be sorry about that.

Re: Are you a Yes or No person?

No...I actually read on items like cars, extended warranties are a very big waste of money. Most of the time, if something major (that they will fix) is going to go wrong, it will happen under the normal warranty they give you with a car.

Re: Are you a Yes or No person?

depends... i got the extended warranty for my new laptop, but i doubt i would get it for something that costs a lot less (i didn't get it for DH's garmin, for example).

Re: Are you a Yes or No person?

I'm usually a no. My husband is very handy and I keep that in my pocket. IF the warranty is reasonably priced - I may say yes. But (for example) the cost of a warranty on a TV at PC Richard is almost half the price of the TV. I take my chances in cases like that.

The laptop is the only thing I have with the extended warranty.

no

every time I actually bought it, I never used it, so I figure if I have to replace the item, and have no warranty, then it was worth it b/c I saved the $ from all the times I didn't buy it and never needed it

But we are going to buy a new tv in a few months, and we plan to buy it on that, we have bad luck with TV's for some reasonChat Icon

Re: Are you a Yes or No person?

NO!

except on the laptop I bought for DH- he tends to break things- and I talked them down to $100

and it covered if it cracked the screen or needed a new battery

Re: Are you a Yes or No person?

No, except for maybe a laptop (I have a company laptop, so it's not an issue for me right now).

I've read a lot of things about warranties, and it's basically a gamble. The store is hoping you'll get it and never use it, or if you do, it will be less than what you paid for the warranty. You are gambling that it will break.

The odds are in favor of the house.... I don't like gambling where I know the house will win over 90% of the time....
