Are you anal about DC's nap time?
I'm only asking b/c I have friends who are neurotic when it comes to any change. They can't handle it.
Here's the story. Mason's 1st b-day party is at 1 PM in NJ at my parent's house. I invited my good friends who have an 18 month old. Between cousins, close friends and my nieces and nephews there's a lot of kids so we hired someone to entertain the kids and do music and other stuff with them. Anyway, my friends live 5 mins from my family and said they're coming, but their DD can't make it b/c 1 PM is her nap time and they don't like to change her schedule. I told them that it's a kids b-day party (a couple of years ago we had friend's 1st b-day parties mainly with adults b/c noone had kids yet) and we have someone coming to entertain the kids and had favors made so I'd love for their DD to come.
Would you not bring your DC if a party is around their nap and go without? I was just a little annoyed, but maybe I'm overreacting I even said she can nap her at my parent's or come a little late if they want, but I didn't get a definite answer yet.

I was never a stickler for the schedule. I'll book park dates and stuff like that around a nap if I can, but I would never skip an event for a nap. I've been lucky that my kids go with the flow.
I would have no qualms about going to a party.

Re: Are you anal about DC's nap time?
I think you will get a variety of answers to this one.
For me, we were never anal about DS nap times. He was never a good napper anyway, so we just took him wherever, whenever. I would not personally miss a kids birthday party because of a nap... I always know that DS (and now DD) will just fall asleep in the car on the way there or way home.
Now I have been known to show up late because DS has fallen asleep in the car on the way somewhere and I end up sitting in the car with him for a little while to let him sleep!
But I would not personally skip events because of nap time.

With DS #1 I was anal about nap times, but he was the kind of kid (still is) who trhives on a schedule. For a bday party I would make an exception, but it really depends on the child. i know at that age if DS went o bed late or strayed too far from the schedule his sleep was messed up for 2 days. Now he is much more flexible and we skip nap time if need be.

Re: Are you anal about DC's nap time?
I'd go late if it was around DS's nap time. We're invited to a party this Sunday from 12-5. DS naps at 1. I plan on going to the party at 2 after his nap.

ITA! i hate that we have to stick to a schedule but DD is a nightmare if her schedule is off. However i will always go to a party late i would never miss it completely for her nap.

Me too, though my DD (esp. at that age) was a bear when I messed with her naptime....but we dealt with it for something like this.

Re: Are you anal about DC's nap time?
If we have nothing going on I insist on putting her down for 2 naps a day. She's pretty miserable otherwise. But if we have an event, we go. I won't skip naps to go to Target, but I will skip them for parties and stuff like that.

Re: Are you anal about DC's nap time?
No, DS goes with the flow and naps when we get home, or in the car. If we are out, he is so nosey that it is impossible for him to sleep randomly, and I am certainly not going all the way home for a nap.
If we have something to do during his nap time, he either misses the nap, or catches some zzz's in the car if he is that tired.

Re: Are you anal about DC's nap time?
I'm not really a stickler with it but I def. like to get them in because she will be a trip the rest of the day and it gives me some time for myself but if we have to run around that day it is what it is.

Re: Are you anal about DC's nap time?
I am not crazy about it to the point where I am not flexible. in general I like my DD to go down at noon because that is when she is tired and because even if she naps for 2-3 hrs (which she always does) she isn't getting up too late and too close to bedtime. I am flexible though because I know there will be times for whatever reason that it's not possible to get her down then and we adjust. I think with babies/kids you need to be flexible. That being said though, what I won't do is let her skip a nap all together because she would never be able to function all day without one.

Re: Are you anal about DC's nap time?
I know what DS can handle and I know he can go a little later with naps without too much of a fit...bottle no, nap yes...lol. I also know that if he gets tired he has the infant carrier he can nap in and I have friends who also have babies who offer their swings for his nap too.

Re: Are you anal about DC's nap time?
I'm a crazy schedule stickler...my husband calls me the "sleep nazi" BUT that being said, if it were a birthday party, I would TOTALLY work her naps around it so we would make it...and that's alot coming from me

Re: Are you anal about DC's nap time?
I'd probably bring her late. She's very scheduled & w/o her nap she's a cranker.
If the party was at 2 & her nap was sked for 1, I'd try to put her down a bit earlier.

Re: Are you anal about DC's nap time?
I'd bring my kid late to your party. He is a beast without a nap. Other than that he is the sweetest child.
Every parent does what they feel is right and she really knows her child best. Perhaps her son is like mine. He only naps at certain times which is great 99% of the time but not so great 1% of the time. Just forget it and enjoy your party. Happy Bday to your little guy!

Ditto for me. For Elizabeth's first b-day party, I scheduled it later in the day, like 2:30 or 3 to try to accommodate some naps of friends DC's and they were still late and missed the entertainment.

Re: Are you anal about DC's nap time?
DS has never been on a strict schedule. He naps when he's tired. He'll also nap in the car seat or sometimes the stroller if we're out. We don't need to be home when he naps. I have friends who have very strict nap schedules though and their DC need to nap in the crib.

Re: Are you anal about DC's nap time?
I'm so not a stickler for naps. Liam naps wherever, whenever, anywhere.
I'm sorry, but he has learned early on to go with the flow. He normally naps from 10-12:30PM. On the weekends, I'm not stuck inside the whole time. Honestly, Liam gets the best sleep in transit.
I know people who are also nuts about naptimes. Not me and I'm with you.

Re: Are you anal about DC's nap time?
I am def. one to stick to schedule. Actually a lot of family/friends joke about it but I dont care. I know what my kids need and missing naps entirely make for cranky kids and a stressed out mom. That being said, I would 100% work around their nap schedule and party time and we would go but would most likely be late.
