Are YOU choosing their costumes according to what you like or choosing something that they like?

How are you choosing Halloween costumes for your toddlers?

At first, I was going to try to go with something she liked...i.e. Dora or a backyardigan but then realized..she will be choosing her Halloween costume for as many years as she wants to dress up. Should I just choose what I like, at least this year (shes almost 2) or should I put her in something that she definately knows?

For example..I found the cutest 50's costume..but obviously she will have NO CLUE what she is as opposed to Dora who she will definately know. What are you doing?

I plan on showing her the pictures of a few different costumes and see which one she likes. That way we're both kinda picking it, lol.

I get to pick it because Lily likes everything!! My husband is helping too.

Sarah's first 2 years I picked based on her interests (a puppy and Blue from Blue's Clues). Last year I made the mistake of asking her what she wanted to be and it changed daily.

This year I decided that they would be Raggedy Ann and Raggedy Andy. Already ordered the costumes.

I'll be choosing what I like...Rylan will only be 7 months...lol.

I bought 2 costumes and put them on him to see his reaction-the first one he just smiled(monkey) and the 2nd one he started laughing like crazy!!(a turkey) I think I have a winner!!!

DD has picked her costumes for the past 3yrs and will continue to do so. I try to sway her with choices though

They'll be many years to come where she will demand her choice!

I still kind of pick what my girls are wearing for Halloween...basically Im buying &/or making so I have the final say.

We usually discuss it before hand...

For Caden...well last year he was a Giraffe b/c it's Daddies favorite animal...

We picked what we liked until DS was 3.5. Now, he gets to decide what he wants. DD will be the same. We'll still pick this year, since she'll be 2.5, but next year, we'll let her have input into what she wants.

We are going to Disney for Halloween so I wanted to choose a Disney Costume. He loves Finding Nemo so I bought him a Nemo costume.

DS is 18 months and LOVES Max & Ruby. Of course, I really can't find a costume for that. I'm going to keep looking. If not, I'll probably have him be ELMO or someone from Blues Clues.
LOL..I would LOVE to find a Moose costume..(Moose A Moose from Noggin).

The first 2 years I did the picking. After that I let them choose. When they were 3 it was easy to sway them "You really LIKE the pirate.. don't you?? Isn't it COOL?" But now it is a bit harder - so I just let them be whatever they want. Robbie was the UGLIEST gorilla last year. Noah has picked Diego for this year. He doesn't even watch the show!! I'm not crazy about it - but it's for him, not for me! I do draw the line at horror costumes - I told Robbie he'll have to wait a couple of years before I will let him go out with a fake knife sticking through his head..

DH and I are choosing, although we can't agree on anything!

This year I'm choosing like I did the past 2 yrs. Maybe next year I'll aks for her input.

This year was so much harder than last to pick a costume. He has characters he likes but all those costumes have things that cover the face and that will be a problem. I didn't want to go too cute of a route since he's getting to be a big boy now.

So I found a costume that I thought would be good but it was all my decision on what it was. As soon as he can tell me what he wants to be I'll hand it over to him to make that decision.

I agree with many people above-- I'd dress your DD how you want this year...probably next year she'll have stronger opinions

I picked for DD last year (she was only 2 1/2 months) and I'll pick this year, since I think by next year, she'll tell ME!!!

Her first Halloween she was only a few weeks old, so she just wore a "My Little Pumpkin" outfit...

2nd Halloween she was just over 1. I picked out a "fairy" costume for her.

3rd Halloween she was just over 2. She picked out a Minnie Mouse costume. We had been to Disney in August and she was in love with Minnie Mouse.

This year she already knows what she wants to be....Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz. She also said that she wantes me to be the Lion (which will be easy, with my big body and curley brown hair!) and she said that she wants DH to be TOTO! Hahahaa He is 6'3" 220lbs. I think he'd be better as the scarecrow or tinman!
