Are you having a big co-ed baby shower or small all women shower?
In my family, we have big, baby parties with both guys and girls, usually at a hall. My DH's family have the quaint, smaller all women showers, at home or restaurant brunch. My MIL is taking charge Of my shower and told DH there is NO WAY we are having a co-ed shower :/ I guess that's fine bc it prevents me from having to invite everyone and their mother but I really want more gifts lol I hate to sound greedy but the more people, the more good things for the baby. (We lost everything in Sandy :/ ) My question is -- what kind of shower are you having and if you had a smaller shower, how did you liven it up?

I'll likely have around 60-70 people -- all women -- at a restaurant. I hate surprises and will be helping my mom plan everything. I'm not a big game person and most shower games annoy me, so they will be minimal. Maybe we'll do a present opening bingo and one other thing where the guests can win prizes, but I'm so not into the whole decorate a onesie with paint pens, taste and guess the baby food jars, cut a streamer to match the size of the belly, etc.

I asked DH if he wanted to do a coed shower (my mom asked me if he wanted to be involved) but he said no. I had a smaller shower with all women held at my grandparent's house, they did a delicious brunch buffet, quiches, french toast casserole, spiral ham, roasted potatoes, brown sugar bacon, muffins, and bagels. It was so incredible, I was beyond touched by the effort everyone put in and everyone who came to celebrate our little boy with me. We had about 18 people there.
My future SIL planned a bunch of games - guess the baby food, name the musician (playlist of 15 songs with the word baby in it, she spanned generations which was nice), and she had pins for everyone in blue that if you said the word baby, whoever heard you say it got to steal your pin.

I'm not having a shower (had one with my first) but I'm very traditional when it comes to showers. Women only and keep it small. So i'm no help! It was not very lively, lol.

My engagement party was held at my grandparents home and we had around 50 people and it worked very well, but their house is rather large.

Mine will be about 60 women at a restaurant. As excited as DH is about this baby, he would not want to sit through a shower, lol

Re: Are you having a big co-ed baby shower or small all women shower?
Every male on both sides of our family would kill me if I did a co-ed shower. Both our families subscribe to the showers are for women concept.
We weren't sure if we would do one or two, because DH's family is all in NJ. So we thought about splitting it into two. Ultimately its up to the moms to hammer out, but I think MIL is going to rent a bus to bring al the NJ guests out here. She did that for my bridal shower and it worked well. She hates driving and my FIL is very ill (brain damage) so this works well for her and a lot of his older relatives came because they only had to drive to her house.
I don't know what my mom will do in way of games, etc. Although my favorite activity at any shower was design onesies, which I told my mom about. I do know I will be opening presents because my mom thinks its rude that people have showers and don't open the gifts, since that is actually the point behind the term shower.

Re: Are you having a big co-ed baby shower or small all women shower?
I had a smallish shower (around 23 people) at my MIL's house. It was fun and intimate and I had a great time. That being said the idea of a huge coed party with tons of people doesn't really appeal to me. We had brunch foods and did some games, chatted and opened presents.

I had 40 women at a restaurant. Honestly, I was just so excited to BE pregnant after my journey that any celebration I had was amazing for the sole fact I was able to celebrate!!

This is exactly how I felt. Nothing mattered to me except celebrating, I didn't care who attended couldn't attend, etc.

Haha, DH wants a group party so bad lol his best friend had one recently and it was a lot of fun, plus it was nice to just let loose. All the guys had a good time too. I guess I'll just have to get used to a smaller setting and maybe I'll like it. I def want to open gifts with guests there and do maybe one or two games. Maybe I can talk her into a restaurant setting instead of house.

Op I get what you are saying since a coed shower is usually nothing like what we normally think of as a shower. Coed is usually more like a party. Lots of food music(DJ) etc. women only is showers games and sit around and open presents.
Can you have it more like a cocktail party (mocktails for mommy) and keep it more party vibe than shower games type event??

No, not disappointed at all. I just have no idea what to expect and I'm a planner so I'm just looking for advice from my ladies who had experience.

Yes, it's more like a baby party what we do in my family and extended families. It's what I'm used to but like I said, MIL and her fam only do the traditional way and since she's throwing it, I'm going to do it her way. Ironically many coed baby showers do include games for the guys and it's pretty hilarious.

I was like this too. I hate having all eyes on me and just wanted to buy everything myself! My mom threw a shower together at the last minute-literally 3 days before - and had it at her house. She held it on a weeknight, so people were pretty much available. It was about 20 of mostly her friends, and a couple of my girlfriends who live on LI. (I live in the city). I didn't register and I didn't know what I was having, so the gifts were a little random, (mostly yellow and green clothes lol) but I felt very loved and it ended up being a lot of fun.

Of course!!!!! Didn't mean anything by it by any means.
The song game was a lot of fun, we were all laughing throughout it because some of the songs were really funny, and for the younger crowd some were such flashbacks.

Re: Are you having a big co-ed baby shower or small all women shower?
I'm Puerto Rican and my hubby is Italian/Polish. This man had no interest in a Jack and Jill Party. Every baby shower my family every had was a HUGE party. It would start late and end late. They even would open the presents. But the guys never paid attention. They all went to the bar to drink.lol In his defense he never got to go to any of my families parties. By the time we got together they were all done having kids.
Forgot to answer your question.
My shower was traditional. All women and tacky games!!! lol Didn't have one with my second because I was on bed rest. So my mil hosted a "welcome to the world party"
good luck!!
