Are you preparing for a possible hurricane this weekend?
I am sitting here watching weather channel who have now put us in a high threat level for a hurricane. I am thinking maybe I'll stock up on some stuff for dd and our pets at least. Anyone else.

Nah- I am sure I will be able to get to the store on Monday or Tuesday if need be. I cna't imagine being stranded for a week or anything.

I am preparing to leave on vacation so hopefully I can get out of here. Oh I hope so. I'm hoping it will just bring some rain and no winds.

Sure am. Obviously I have kids, and they need to eat in the event of a power outage. Got a bunch of water, bread, peanut butter, and some other canned stuff (which is probably worthless without power anyway LOL)

Re: Are you preparing for a possible hurricane this weekend?
Only thing I will worry about is formula (RTF is small bottles or cans so it won't spoil) and water for us. We have enough stuff to survive a day or 2 (not to mention our own reserves )

So long as you have a manual can opener you'll be ok. Worse case scenerio they CAN eat canned goods un-heated or you can heat it on a BBQ grill if need be.

Oh I didn't even think of the grill. And we do have a manual can opener, I was just thinking of the heating aspect of it. Thanks!

Nah, there is plenty in the house that would hold us for a day.

Re: Are you preparing for a possible hurricane this weekend?
I'll do the water, batteries and gas in the car. Other than that, eh, we'll survive. We'll probably end up at my parents' house if there really is a hurricane since our basement floods in heavy rain and theirs is set up as a den

Re: Are you preparing for a possible hurricane this weekend?
We have a BBQ in NJ on Sat and one in RI on Sunday (both of which will just turn into indoor GTGs if the weather gets bad). Our contingency plan is to drop the dog off with my brother on our way to NJ and stay there Sat night and drive to RI on Sunday...as opposed to taking the ferry Although I HAVE to be at work Monday, so we may have to cancel RI.
We're just going to make sure we have stuff in the house (water, formula, batteries, PB&J) so that we're covered either way.
ETA: Ugh, it is looking worse than I thought when I first posted this...most likely NOT going to RI

When we were hit by a category 2 in Florida we were without power for 2 weeks. No running water (we had a well), no generator, we had to bathe in the pool. Three weeks later we were hit again and we were without power for ANOTHER 2 weeks!!! I wouldn't count on stores being open on Monday or Tuesday if it's a direct hit.
ETA: And if anyone lives by the bay, don't forget about the possibility of a storm surge.

Re: Are you preparing for a possible hurricane this weekend?
Yes I am! DH has drill this weekend, meaning he will not be here, and I need to be prepared with the kids on my own. So tomorrow will be the store for any random items I need, and fill up on gas in the car.

Re: Are you preparing for a possible hurricane this weekend?
We will just make sure we have milk.
We are lucky to have all wires underground, so we are not as susceptible to power outages.
Plus, LIPA (aka LILCO) learned a hard lesson after Gloria and that wasn't even too bad considering.

Re: Are you preparing for a possible hurricane this weekend?
yeah why not. Everything you buy shouldnt need to be cooled or frozen so its not like it can go bad. All the items you buy will last. I was going to buy some of those tap lights anyway. My parents have them and they come in handy.

Re: Are you preparing for a possible hurricane this weekend?
We have lost power for several hours three times already this summer due to storms, so I am anticipating being without power again. I'm not going to go out and buy anything, but I'm planning to cook as much as possible this week from the freezer and also make sure all the flashlights, etc. are ready to go.

Re: Are you preparing for a possible hurricane this weekend?
Yes. We'll bring in outdoor toys, umbrellas, tiki torches, etc. Need to gather our flashlights and candles. Make sure we have plenty of formula. Nothing crazy...just cautious.

Re: Are you preparing for a possible hurricane this weekend?
OMG I didn't realize it was going to be so bad, until I saw this post and started looking online. DH is going fishing Sat during the day and I have a bachelorette party on Saturday night. Hope the weather won't be too bad, but it's looking like rain for all Sat night!!
I told DH to go out today and make sure we had plenty of flashlights, batteries, milk for DD, make ice (in case we loose power) so we can keep her milk cold, and make sure we aren't running low on anything impt.
