Are you scared of death?

With everything going on with my cousin, it really shows me how scared I am of death. Not just regarding say, if I were to pass...but I have this terrible, awful fear of losing someone I love. I know you should be thankful for every day you have with a person, but I am honestly terrified to think about losing someone very, very close to me. For those who have lost parents...I just really am in awe of your strength. I've lost a close aunt and grandparent, but I have this sick fear of losing my sister, DH or my mom or dad....sometimes I get very scared about this.

Re: Are you scared of death?

I am more scared of dying in pain than of death itself.

my aunt died in pain; my mother was in the room with her. it really changed how my mother perceived death...which was in peace, I guess. She actually witnessed the body shutting down, almost as though it were fighting. That really scared me....

Re: Are you scared of death?

I'm not really scared of me dying but like you said, of losing the ones I love the most especially my daughter.

I try not to dwell on it, unfortunately that's the nature of life.

I try to enjoy life as much as I can.Chat Icon

Re: Are you scared of death?

I do not want to know it is going to happen.

The only thing I fear about death is making sure that my children (in the future) are cared for should both parents be deceased.

Re: Are you scared of death?

I'm afraid of the act of dying. Because I'm afraid that it will be painful, I'm afraid that my mind will somehow try to fight the letting go that should happen, I'm afraid of being aware of the pain that my death would cause my loved ones.

But death itself does not scare me.

However - losing my parents, DH or my brother - that will cripple me. I can't handle the mere thought of it. I'm terrified of them dying.

Re: Are you scared of death?

sorry to be so morbid...i've been like this for a long time. i can recall being a little girl, and this one time my mom took a LONG time coming back from the store. I right away thought she was in a car accident and went to her room and cried looking at her photos. can you believe that? i was like 8! i don't know where this comes from....i have to ask my therapist sister about all this! LOL!

My dad died very suddenly at a young age (50). Sometimes I worry about that happening again with someone close. It never lasts for more than a day or a few hours. I try not to worry about it too much because it is out of my control. I dread the day when I have to go through that pain again.

As far as me dying-I have no fear of that. When it is my time, it is my time.

Re: Are you scared of death?

As many people said, I'm not scared of actual death itself. I'm just scared of the pain that may/may not be associated with it.

I like to think that the spirit leaves the body just prior to the actual death. Hopefully, no one actually needs to feel death itself happening. Chat Icon

Re: Are you scared of death?

I am very scared of death. I get anxiety attacks when I sit and really think about it. I think I am more afraid of what comes after.... if anything at all. I'm afraid that there is nothing after this, that I will never get to see my loved ones again. That scares me the most.

I am completely terrified of death. I think, perhaps, it is because I am not very religious so I do not subscribe to a particular idea of the "afterlife". SO to me it is the fear of not knowing or the possibility of nothingness that really scares me. Just the fact the I won't be HERE...

Re: Are you scared of death?

I'm not really afraid of dying myself, but I'm terrified of losing those I love. I've suffered a lot of loss already...I lost 3 of my grandparents within 5 months of each other... When it comes to my parents I don't know how I'll deal. I know I will, because that's just what I do, but I can't imagine it.

Petrified. Sometimes it prevents me from doing certain things. And if DH goes out at night with the guys, I panic. I lay awake wondering "is he OK?" Am I going to get that horrible phone call.

Re: Are you scared of death?

I struggle with religion, so this is a tough question to answer for me.

I'm afraid of never seeing my loved ones once I'm gone, and I'm terrified of being alone (once dead - if that's possible). Now if I had that religious aspect to grab onto, I probably wouldn't have this take on death. In my mind, when you die, it's kinda like "ground hog day" (the movie). You keep reliving your life until you get it right.

I'm also fearful of losing loved ones... I can't even begin to think of this because I get teary-eyed even doing so.

I am very scared of dying. I think about it more than I probably should. It upsets me that there will be a day when I will no longer see the people I love.

Re: Are you scared of death?

I saw a movie once and it had a mother explaining to her sick child about death.

She told him that after he was born and living life - you wouldn't want to go back in mommy's belly right? And of course he said no. Then she said well, it's like that after you die - you wouldn't want to come back to life on Earth because death is the next step and even better than life. I try to think of that when I think about dying.

What I am fearful of is leaving life unfinished, and dying young, and my DDs not growing up with a mother. That is my constant thought lately. Chat Icon
