Are you spending money differently with how you spend?
i went to jc penney today. i had a gift card and credit that i wanted to use. they were a little crowded. it was still during the doorbusters. people are still spending. there was plenty of people in the mall. if i didn't have the gift card, i wouldn't have gone

Re: Are you spending money differently with how you spend?
We're still spending $$$ but I try to get the most for our buck where I can. DH just got a new job and needs clothes for work... so yesterday we hit up Tanger and got him a bunch of polo shirts, dress shirts, pants, 2 pairs of nice shoes, sweaters and a jacket and didn't spend nearly what I expected we would. The stores that we shopped at had 20-40% off but then an extra 40% off on top of that- plus we had coupons b/c I belong to the tanger club and then they gave us coupons for their sister stores- also for $1 each in certain stores (all of the ones we shopped at) we got an extra 25% off the most expensive item- it was a donation for breast cancer research. It probably took a little longer but we def. shopped smarter. I got DH 2 pairs of nice dress shoes ($100 each to start=$200) plus a jacket ($100) for under $100! I didn't buy any extras either- I think we're def. cutting back but buying smarter!

Re: Are you spending money differently with how you spend?
I was at Tanger Riverhead yesterday & today.the stores with good sales are FILLED, long lines, no parking spots. I always shop bargains so nothing is different for me. We are planning on making a furniture purchase, but we might hold off. The amount of people out here pumpkin picking is INSANE this year, I think it worse than any other year. I will not be leaving my neighborhood on weekends for the rest of October. Either people aren't worried or they just want to distract themselves because people seem to be spending $$$$

Re: Are you spending money differently with how you spend?
I have always been a frugal spender and pretty much pay cash for everything. So, i would say we are the same but trying to tighten the belt. It just seem like this year we have had alot of of unexpected expenses. But, the good thing is we have had the money to pay for it. The bad thing is less money in our savings account then i would like.

Re: Are you spending money differently with how you spend?
It's funny you asked this question because my mom and I were out shopping a bit today, and I said that you'd never know our country was having an economic crisis (for lack of a better word) with all the people out and about shopping with smiles on their faces, ya know? Personally, I'm trying to cut back my spending, but that's not because of the economy, just because the holidays are coming and I want to save some more to buy Ava's gifts.

I don't think this area has been hit as hard as other parts of the country. I'm sure if you visited a mall somewhere in the midwest, there would be a difference.

I have always used coupons, shopped sales and frequented outlet stores. We go out to eat less but otherwise...nothing has changed...

same. we have always lived within our means - holding off large purchases though. (wanted to get a new fence for the house, but we will wait another year).

Re: Are you spending money differently with how you spend?
We have nothing to spend a well! It really really sucks. We're in the middle of moving and there are things we should really get for the move, but we are trying to keep our purchases to a bare min.

Re: Are you spending money differently with how you spend?
I was never a big spender, but I'm thinking about how much I spend, and on what, more than I used to.
However, it's not really because of the economy. DH and I just got married in August and are on one salary until I graduate law school in May and start working in Sept. We have a pretty nice cushion in the bank (probably equal to 1 year of DH's take-home pay), about half of which is wedding gift $$ and most of the rest was my savings.
We made a budget and are trying to stick to it as much as possible without having to dip into our savings too much. I'm a lot more conscious about how much we spend (which is usually on eating out or grocery shopping).
We also track every dollar in and out in Quicken.

Re: Are you spending money differently with how you spend?
Sort of -- we just moved into a house from a 2 bedroom apartment. We need/want ALOT and purposely kept $$$$$ in savings for furniture/improvements, so we are still buying some things, but DH works in the financial industry so we're being much more conservative than we planned. We're planning on furnishing our house much slower than we had originally thought. We both want to wait & see what happens before we spend too much. Hopefully by the spring, the stock market will improve, DH will still have his job , and then we'll feel better buying a little bit more.
