I just got the all clear text message. It says the police checked the area and there is no longer any immediate danger.

Yeah, we've been complaining all afternoon that the text messsages when out so quickly, but the e-mail messages and the web site were slow in getting messages out to the non-cell phone individuals.
As Sean said, things are okay now....hopefully they will find the guy who started this whole thing!

So am I. We have WUSB on. Unfortunately, they aren't much help.
We never got an alert.  We got an email from another department on the other side of campus about it.
It took forever for any information to be put on the website.
I think you need to put your cell number into solar. Then you will get texts and calls about stuff like this. I got the text probably 40 mins before the actual e-mail went out. There is definately a break down in the communication system for this issue.
That doesn't work as well, either. My secretary had her cell on, was on the alert list, but received nothing, but a student did who was in our office and showed us the text message.

Hey guys, I'm ok just still a little freaked out about today i'm glad to be home... Thank's don for your concern . There was still channel 12 news around the building by 4:12pm when i left and 1 police car, they said it was in the clear but i dont know if he is still on campus or not!! What a crazy monday!!! (take's a deep breath)

Glad everyone is okay. The alert system is probably better than the "system" that was in place when I went to Stony Brook in the late 1980s. Some small news would leak and there would be 18 different rumors around campus and it would be mayhem. It's never been the safest campus.

I heard today that the person might not have had a gun afterall, the investigation has had loopholes, they might not continue with it, but they are now going to have a better security if there is a Next time, Let's hope not...If anyone else does work at stonybrook on here and you want to sigh up the text update's this was the site i was given by my building manager and he recommend's people to do this... It's www.Stonybrook.edu/SB/emergency
/Comm.shtml. than click through solar... Just passing the information along.I'm glad it was a false alarm.
