I have to agree, I also think something is off. I certainly don't think the father did it or that the cops are up to no good.
I do not think this man appears to be capable of premeditating a murder. I know DNA doesn't lie and I'm not saying he didn't do the dirty work, but someone else was behind this. No question in my mind.
But it wasnt premeditated. He saw her and snapped.
You act like all the facts are so cut and dried and neatly tied up in a little box. Some of it seems a bit too convenient. We are not the judge and jury. This man's life could be destroyed if he in fact did not commit this crime. This has the Central Park 5 written all over it

Arrest made in death of jogger, Karina Vetrano
I heard from a reliable source that the young man was a paranoid schizophrenic with a history of aggression toward women, He does not have a record LIKELY BECAUSE was maintained in a special education school with a one to one para and I also believe at times as a residential student who lived on the premises. If the source is correct he fits the exact profile of someone who could snap and commit this crime.

I guess we will have to see if the DNA sample (found in the condom) matches the DNA evidence found on her body.

They had the Central Park 5 Dna on the victim then? I mean when they got arrested
No, DNA evidence didn't exist back then, and their confessions were coerced. It was DNA evidence that cleared them 20 years later.
This case is odd, no doubt. It's unusual that he willingly offered his DNA. It's strange that there was a condom on the scene.. but if he is mentally disabled then a lot of the oddities make sense. I can see a 20 year old guy walking around with condoms in his pocket. I can see a mentally disabled person snapping one day and committing a violent crime. And I can imagine a situation where someone would wear a condom to protect himself but then leave it on the scene, just because he's not bright enough or not in the right presence of mind to cover all his tracks.
At the same time, I wonder if it's a frame job. Couldn't say why really, it just doesn't sit right with me.

Arrest made in death of jogger, Karina Vetrano
Newsday (which isn't always reliable) said that "police said her assailant tried to complete a sex act but apparently didn't."

So then how can anyone compare this to the central Park 5??
Because in the Central Park 5, they wanted to solve the case and they found people to pin it on, even though at least one of those guys had an air-tight alibi. They got them to confess to a crime they didn't commit, and basically destroyed 5 boys lives.
In this case, they wanted to solve the case and this guy seems to have appeared out of no where and he's behaved in a way that an innocent man would behave - voluntarily giving his DNA??? If I left my DNA all over someone you wouldn't get a sample without a warrant... but now they have a confession.
We're such a jaded society no one knows what to believe anymore. We don't believe the news, we don't believe science, we don't believe evidence. Who knows.
I hope it is him and this can all be put to rest, but I can see why people feel it isn't.

I can see his defense having a field day with the fact that he had no lawyer present when he was questioned and confessed, etc......

The legal commentator on GMA this morning was saying that she doesn't even know if any of that information will be admissible because of that exact reason. She was seemingly questioning this arrest as well. As was Robin Roberts. The whole thing is weird.
I haven't been completely following the case but how do they know the condom was from that assault? From what I read, it sounded like the poor girl made every effort to fight him off. How would he have time or the ability to put on a condom? Or was it done after she was dead? I don't know a lot about rape crimes but I just think its odd that a rapist would stop to put on a condom.

This has given me feelings of a Brendan Dassey case. I do not like feeling that way.

In the article I read, I thought it was worded so odd…that the detective then "remembered" him lurking a few months back with a crow bar, etc. Just seemed so odd, like, how did you not think of this sooner??

I feel like with a heavy case load, many detectives can just shelve an idea until it just pops up in the middle of the nigh. I read an interview with him this morning, and it brought me back to an incident that happened to me about 12 years ago. I was food shopping in Freeport and a young guy wearing a heavy puffer jacket and sweating profusely approaches me for money. He put his hands up in defense saying he didn't have a weapon, he just wanted help. He looked drugged out. I offered to call a local counseling/help/outreach place for him but he refused. I felt bad for him, but he walked away. I live 3 miles away. About 4 months later, DH is waiting for me in the driveway in his car. As I am walking out the door, I notice the same guy approaching DH in the driveway, same thing, hands up. I quickly backed into the house after making eye contact with DH and came back out talking with a phone in my hand and something that made him leave, real quickly. The cops were making their rounds because apparently he was approaching others for money, and it told them what happened and How I tried to call for help for him a few months before. I was able to recall what he was wearing and what he said. Those memories weren't sparked until I had that sudden "aha" moment. I can understand how this detective suddenly linked the pieces.
Having said that, the whole questioning, gathering of DNA and confession seem really hinky to me, too.

Re: Arrest made in death of jogger, Karina Vetrano
What I read was that the person did not complete the sex act.
I do believe they have the right guy. However, I'm still against the perp walk. It's costly to transport a defendant in that manner and it serves no purpose. There is no real need to alert the press of the time and place when they transport a defendant. I think it's highly prejudicial. The best criminal lawyers I know are the ones who keep their clients from being paraded in front of the media. I cringed when I saw this perp walk. Cops had to know that they were dealing with someone who has some sort of mental health history but they went for the publicity.
