No, Duh: Young, Married, Childless Couples Happiest Posted Mar 1st 2011 at 9:00AM by Jennifer Barton ______________________________
If you're happy and you know it, well, chances are you're young, married and childless. If you're British, that is.
Initial findings from the U.K.'s Understanding Society study show that young, hitched couples without kids had the most satisfying relationships. The survey is tracking 40,000 households over the next two decades to get a better handle on people's lives, experiences and, presumably, bucket lists.
Other findings: Older couples were less content than their younger counterparts, with women experiencing a greater decline in happiness than men, according to the research.
And living with your significant other doesn't have quite the same effect on your endorphins as being married does, with married couples happier than their cohabiting peers. Might this have something to do with getting over the drama of putting a ring on it?
Among the factors that apparently helped set the foundation for happiness in a relationship: being with a partner for fewer than five years, and having a college education. (Those never-ending student loan payoffs sure can bond two people together like nothing else, can't they?)
But hearing the pitter-patter of tiny feet doesn't add to the joy of marital bliss -- instead, it seems to hinder it. Researchers found that couples with pre-schoolers were the unhappiest, but they became more content as their youngest child grew up. We're presuming this is only the case for those who didn't have another baby ...
Another finding from the tell-us-something-we-don't-know department: Unemployment can also get in the way of how content couples are.
As for kids, growing up in a single-parent household and having younger siblings apparently interferes with overall joie de vivre.
Despite 54 percent of siblings in Britain reporting that they were bullied by their brothers and sisters (that's more than in the U.S., your mercilessly teased younger sister will be pleased to know), 60 percent of the 1,268 people surveyed said they were "completely satisfied" with their family lives.
So all we need is a husband, no kids, no siblings and a chance to stay forever young, if we want to be happy. We're miserable just thinking about it.
At least there's still hope for Prince Will and Kate.

I feel like this article may apply to some and may not apply to others.
And like everything in life, there will always be exceptions.
I agree. While most of the points in the article apply to DH and I, I know a good amount of people who fit those same descriptions and have/want children, and they would most likely also describe themselves as being a happy couple.
To each his/her own
