Asking for my SIL & BIL
My SIL & BIL live in Whitestone, in a condo, they have a 3 month old child. They know they want 1, maybe even 2 more, kids. They would love to stay in Queens, but can't afford anything other than the condo. I recommended where I live (Floral Park village), and they are putting that on their list, but they don't want to limit it to just there. They are looking for- good public schools community feel large and active Catholic parish nice town pool, rec center, parades, community events BIL works in Long Island City, SIL teaches in Flushing- so they both drive to work, so train line isn't important 3-4 bedroom house with 800k budget
We didn't really look for anything anywhere other than our town, so I am not too familiar with Nassau. But the short list I suggested- Floral Park/Bellerose Village Garden City Merrick Bellmore Wantagh Seaford Massapequa Rockville Centre Oceanside Lynbrook
Anything they should add or take off the list? TIA!

Of that list I would say Floral Park and Garden City. What about Roslyn, Port Washington, Manhasset. With them working in Queens I wouldn't go too far east.
If they're open to Queens they could look in Middle Village, Glendale, Kew Gardens and maybe even a fixer upper in Forest Hills.

My first suggestion would be Floral Park also! My mom is still there. I'd also add new Hyde park to that list. I would stay more in that area then the south shore...but I also don't like a long commute! I know it doesn't bother some people.

The commute to LIC from south shore could be rough. I don't think I'd move farther east than Rockville Centre with that budget.

everything they are asking for is literally floral park lol... I grew up in the are a and love floral park, but Dh and I wanted to get away just because we hated seeing everyone we know around town all the time LOL.. We moved to Garden City South and feel like it's a great middle ground for us. We have rath park as our rec/pool area, we are close to edgemere park as well, and we have st. anne's a few blocks away (though we usually go to OLV for holiday masses anyway- it's also where we got married). I would maybe have them add that to their list.
The rec center in floral park is amazing though!

Agree with this-- Floral Park, GCS, or Franklin Square -- all good choices.

Re: Asking for my SIL & BIL
Floral Park is a beautiful area. I feel their pain- I moved from Queens in 2016 and I didn't want to leave, but it's impossible to find a reasonably priced home there! I mean houses around my parents (in Middle Village) are selling for around a cool million (and are certainly not worth nearly that in my eyes!). We moved to Lynbrook and I truly love it there. I'm walking distance to the LIRR, a short drive to Queens (20/25 minutes on the weekend to my parent's house), a nice community pool, lots of parks, a town area in walking distance (plus a short drive/cab ride to RVC which is a great place to go out), excellent schools, very small town feel. I remember one of the first weeks we moved in I was hugely pregnant and was walking my dog around the neighborhood and I literally saw a father/son game of catch in the street, kids riding their bikes and playing basketball, a grandparent helping their grandkid build a lemonade stand... it was like walking onto the set of Pleasantville.

my neighborhood checks off all those boxes...Forest City section of Wantagh. We have the town pool with a playground, tennis court, basketball court, baseball diamond and lake in the community
