asphalt vs. concrete
We're getting our driveway, walkway and stoop redone.
We're doing pavers for the walkway and stoop, and are trying to decide between asphalt and concrete for the driveway. We'd love to do pavers for the driveway, but it's just too expensive for us right now.
Pro's or con's for either?
Do you have to seal asphalt every few years?
does concrete crack?
thanks!

Re: asphalt vs. concrete
The previous owners in my house layed concrete. it does crack and we are getting it repaired this year. Asphalt needs to be sealed (not sure how many years though). DH said we can't get aspahlt because he works a lot on his cars in the driveway and the weight of the jacks, etc. will cause the asphalt to sink. Just something to think about!

Re: asphalt vs. concrete
I was just going to add same point as above poster, I've noticed especially on hot days that our driveway gets soft. Our driveway runs along the side of our house and into the back, we wanted to put our patio table back there and couldn't because the table legs sink & leave marks

Re: asphalt vs. concrete
Talk to your contractor before making a decision. We were debating on the concrete v. asphalt issue for the driveway too but since we were doing our walkway at the same time and he was already bringing the concrete with him, it turned out cheaper for us.
ETA our contractor also owned his own concrete but not the asphalt so thats another reason it was cheaper.

I've been asking the guys who come and do estimates, but get varying answers from them - figured it can't hurt to ask people who have experience with either, not just people who are trying to sell one or the other to me
