At home hair coloring vs In salon hair coloring
My MIL goes to beauty supply store- gets me the color and colors my hair.
its one color- dark brown.
I had it done less than 2 months ago, and the small grey area patch i have is peeking through.
This happens often. shes been coloring my hair past yr already. I know touch ups are needed but not this soon.
so.......
Do you feel getting it done at a salon does more/helps/prolongs the color and look?
Or is the same- just cheaper?

Re: At home hair coloring vs In salon hair coloring
I have been coloring my hair for 20 years (yikes!!). I have done both throughout the years and I do feel like it lasts longer when I get it done at a salon. I have a lot of gray and get it done every 4-5 weeks.

4 to 6 weeks is average to redo growth. 2 months is a long time.

Re: At home hair coloring vs In salon hair coloring
Whether I colored at a salon or at home, 2 months would be too long without a touch up. When I was blonde, they wanted me to do it every 4 or so weeks. With the brown dye I do now, I SHOULD do it every 6 weeks or so, but I do it every 2 months. By then my greys are DEFINITELY showing.
I do it at home now since the color comes out pretty much the same, but it's a small fraction of the cost (even considering I have to do 3 boxes at home because of thickness and length - STILL way cheaper to do at home), and I can do it on my own schedule, after DS is asleep or wake up early before he's up.

Re: At home hair coloring vs In salon hair coloring
I'd say a little under 2 months is average touch up time for dyed hair- colored in salon or at home. At home I actually think it's a little over a month before it needs a touch-up.
ETA: I got my hair colored 6 or 7 weeks ago and I'm getting it redone tomorrow.

Re: At home hair coloring vs In salon hair coloring
For a while I was doing my own color to save money. I got all of m products at Sally Beauty Supply rather than using the store brand. I liked it, but now I find that getting it done at the salon does last longer. I have a grey patch right on the top of my head that stands out if I don't color it. The grey would bleed through faster when I did it than when I get it done.
