At how many weeks is it safe to go into labor?

I realize this is a question for my MW - but just curious (I'll be asking at my appt next week). I'll be 36-weeks on Tuesday, if I go into labor now, do I labor at home or would my labor need to be stalled? Anyone know? Thanks!

37 weeks is considered full term. Before 37 baby would be considered a ppreemie. I'm not sure if they actively stop labor at 36 weeks...it might vary based on circumstances.

Eta...at 35/36 weeks I would not labor at home. I'd definitely call Dr right away. It's still a little too early in a normal pregnancy.

At 36 weeks I wouldn't think they would stall your labor. I personally wouln't labor at home just incase the baby is in some sort of distress.

Thanks! I had no action with DS1 - this pregnancy I've had some very strong BH contractions, pelvic pains, and other 'labor might be coming' signals and it suddenly occurred to me - huh, what if I go into labor now? I'll do anything to stay out of the hospital!!

My doctor told me right now at 35 weeks they wouldn't stall my labor. I woudl call and see if I could labor at home a little; but if my OB said to come right in I would.

I delivered at exactly 37 weeks. There was no even thought to stop or delay it. I went rght to the hospital and DS was born 6-9 and no issues at all.

I'm on modified bed rest until 36 weeks, my OB said at that point it's safe if I go into labor.

37 weeks is technically full term, but I'm sure there are other factors involved in deciding if they stall you or let you deliver.

Why? Is everything ok?

I never went into labor with my son and I'm almost positive his head never really descended. My guess is this baby is making a slow descent, which is causing all sorts of aches and pains I didn't experience with my son. I got off the LIRR last week and felt like I had taken a 50 mile bike ride - my pelvis felt bruised! Of course now I feel fine again... I'm so anxious about avoiding any kind of intervention, that I'm making myself a little crazy!
