Often it does show around 18-24 months and can include a loss of previously acquired language skills. The diagnosis is often around 3-4 years old though. Research is showing that signs may appear before 1 year old though, and can include behaviors such as lack of a social gaze, lack of joint attention, tendency to withdraw, delay in acquisition of milestones, not smiling in response to a smile, decreased facial expression, being passive, and even being irritable such as when held.

My son exhibited all those signs when he was an infant, which I of course at the time thought nothing of. My grandmother first met him when he was 3 months old and said she knew back then something was "off".
So to answer your question OP, you can see signs in infancy.

I think with some... you can tell when they're a baby. I definitely think there are signs.

Earlier.
You can see signs as early as 6-7 mts. Lack of social smile, relatedness, joint attention, and responding to variations in facial expression and tone of voice.... ETA - you CAN see signs as early as 2-3 mt, but the signs don't stand out as significantly until there are expectations for more social behavior, which often is the case at 5+ mts...
I also wanted to point something out - the cases where kids seem to regress *may* also be the following:
If a child has a delay, the delays don't manifest as significant until the gaps get wider. So, a 5 mt old with a 3 week delay isn't a big deal, and it will go unnoticed. milestones are still reached, no one is concerned. A 6 mt old with a 1 mt delay, same thing. A 12 mt old with a 2-3 mt delay, small concerns, but nothing major. But when the gaps get wider and wider, so there is an 18 mt old with a 5 mt delay, that is more pronounced, and it may look like regression, rather than the gaps in the delays becoming more pronounced. I DO know of cases where kids has language and lost it, but that is fairly rare....

Liza is it possibe to have all of those signs that you named and then regress? or they just dont have them to begin with?
I know someone who has it and when they get excited they flap there arms. He is 8 yrs old now.

Funny - I just added something to the post above that actually addresses that question.... Children start self-stimulatory behavior (flapping, lining things up, etc) not as babes - but usually at ages 2-3. Those self-stimulatory behaviors become more pronounced as kids get older, for various reasons, and usually more behaviors like that can develop if they aren't taught how to manage or replace them. It can definitely be the case that flapping can happen later on...

I agree! IMO, there are signs VERY early on.

Now with my case, I didnt see any signs in his infanyt years, just after the series of DTap vaccines, he stopped babbling and cooing, but I was not concerned because he always had good eye contact and laughed and giggled all the time, his signs started to ahow after his 1 year birthday.
