At what age did you let your children use public bathrooms themselves (without you going in as well) ?
Curious what age is appropriate. I still would take my 5 year old DS with me in the women's room I do know at some point soon he will need to go on his own soon.

My kids are both still very young. Honestly, it will be a very long time before I would even consider letting them do that. I would know where all the single toilet bathrooms were everywhere go. This is something that really makes me nervous

My DS is 6 and it depends where we are. I would make him use te ladies room with me at an amusement park, but at a all restaurant I would let him use the men's room and just wait right outside.

My son is 5 1/2 and I still take him to the bathroom with me in crowded type places. I try to find family style rest rooms. If that is not an option, or it is a small restaurant, I have stood outside the door while he went to the men's room. I started doing that this year - a couple of months ago.

This, it depends where we are, if it is a major public restroom like at an amusement park, rest stop, airport, no way, when it borderlines inappropriate, LOL.
Restaurant bathrooms etc, I do allow my young elementary DC go alone and I wait outside.

In this day and age, I would not let my child go in alone until they are way older than 5-6. There are too many creepos out there!

How old are your children?
My cousins are 6 1/2 and 8 and I can't imagine them in a ladies room with their mom.
I plan to stand right outside when my kids are over 5. Maybe teach them to yell for me if there's danger.

My DD is 3.5. If it's a single bathroom, she goes in by herself. I will wait right outside the door, unless our table is literally feet from the bathroom where I can watch. Otherwise I take her and she'll just use the stall by herself.

My older girls are 7.5 and 6 (next month!). We go out to eat frequently and I always go in the bathroom with them, but not into the actual stall anymore.
I'm sure my answer will change a bit when my son is that age. If he and I were alone without DH, I'd most likely walk him to the men's room and wait outside. I think I recall my nephew using the bathroom entirely alone around age 8 or 9? Again, not at Yankee Stadium, but at a restaurant.

This again? Lol. There is no visible nakedness going on in the ladies room, so take them in as long as you feel comfortable. I am finding more and more places offer companion or family restrooms which is nice.

Re: At what age did you let your children use public bathrooms themselves (without you going in as well) ?
She’ll be with me for all public bathrooms with stalls, period. End of story. Maybe when she’s in middle school I’ll reconsider. LOL But she’s 4 so we’ll see…
I think soon though she’ll get to be out of that stage where I have to be in the stall with her. She asked me last weekend to give her ‘privacy’, so I stood outside the stall. I think mostly its just a thing of getting up on the seat (she’s petite) that’s holding her back. She can get up there but is afraid to get her pants wet coming back down.
