My DD is 2 1/2 months and loves to pick up the washcloth in the bath and suck the water and loves it when i dump the water over her head and face and tries to drink it. Also when we give her her binky after running it under cold water she loves it. I know with my older DD(who is now 8) I was able to give her water around this time. But i'm not sure if things have changed since then.

I didn't give my DS water until he was about 6 months old.
The reason I've heard is that it is unnecessary since they get all the hydration they need from formula/bm and since their tummies are so small at this age, the water may make them feel full and then they would drink less formula/bm.

I think about 6 months, when I started giving her a sippy cup.

Re: At what age did you start giving your DC water?
when I started the sippy cup at around 5 months old. when my first child was around 3 months his doctor said to only give water on very hot days when everyone else is drinking water all day to stay cool. He said they don't need it at that age but a sip here and there is ok.
It can be very easy for children under 1 year old to absorb too much water, especially if the child is under nine months old. Because of their small body mass, it is easy to take in a large amount of water relative to body size. Its called Water intoxication, so don't give water too much.
