No. And it makes no difference at all.

Are these older peds? B/c that is a fairly old school idea.

Your baby will sleep when he/she is ready. Nothing you do will make them sleep longer.

Hang in there... it gets better!

I've heard of giving cereal, but for Kaydyn she didn't sleep any better once she was on cereal.

I know alot of older people will tell you to give them cereal to help them sleep, but Pediatricians don't recommend it. My Ped told me no cereal until 4 months of age.
Some baby's always sleep great and others never do. I just started giving DS cereal and I really don't see a difference in his sleeping. At 8 weeks, he was up every 3 hours during the night and at 4 months he was able to make it 8 or more hours a night before cereal.

I would never give sugar water. It is empty calories and at 8 weeks baby's need all the the nutrients from BM or Formula.

How would sugar water help? Seems like it would keep baby up longer.

At 8 weeks, DS woke up when he was hungry. I would think putting DC to bed with a full tummy would work best.

I would definitely not give sugar water - there is no benefit to doing that if your child is healthy. I have heard of using cereal in the milk - but in doing research (for a different reason - reflux) I found that it is not supposed to make any difference.

Also the current thought is that starting cereal before 4 months increases your child's risk for diabetes and food allergies later in life.

Unfortunately sleeping the night at his age is very helpful - most babies DON"T sleep thru the night yet at that age. Actually some people believe that formula fed babies sleep longer than BF ones do too - not sure if that is true or not. As frustrating as it is it WILL get better in time.

sugar water is empty calories and should not be given to a newborn. most pediatricians recommend no water at all until 6 months of age.

as for cereal in bottles, that is used for reflux, and as PPS have mentioned, does not help with getting a baby to sleep through the night.

Sugar water is a recommendation I've only heard from older generations (the people that recommend brandy for teething babies)-I wouldn't try it.

As for cereal, I didn't do cereal until DD was almost 6 months. I don't know if it would help them sleep through the night but I'm pretty sure 8 weeks is too early anyway.
