Ativan - yea or nay?

I've started to have anxiety attacks. Did Ativan help to get you through or did it make things worse? I just really want a good night's sleep. I can not shut my worrying off.
I should add that the major source of my anxiety will be over in two weeks maybe sooner if I annoy the psycho d.d.s. enough!

Re: Ativan - yea or nay?

The medication has helped me.
Make sure you know though that Ativan can be addictive (if you have that personality it's good to know before you start taking it).

Re: Ativan - yea or nay?

I've heard good things about it.

Not the same thing, but I've also heard thet Lunesta is great for turning off the worries in your mind and helping you get to sleep.

OOH Jennifer just reminded me that you s hould know (my doc did NOT tell me this one ahead of time). Ativan can have amnesiac effects.
Be warry of conversations you have as you are on it.

Great...another thing for me to worry about. Chat Icon
But the thought of having a really good night's sleep with no worries, or tossing or turning...heaven!
The R.N. thought Ativan would really suit my needs "for a couple days". She said "What would usually irritate you will just roll off your back."
Thanks for your replies...real world experiences are so much better then reading a webMD blurb!

speaking from experience (im a RN) xanax or ativan should take the edge off. just beware they can become addictive and trying to come off of those pills can be scary!

Xanax is shorter acting than Ativan so it will be more addictive!

Re: Ativan - yea or nay?

I use Ativan when I fly (I hate flying). Generally, it works pretty well for me - I'm aware of the fact that I'm flying and don't particularly like it, but my body doesn't have the same physical reaction it usually does (nervousness, sweaty palms, shouting "get me off this plane!!!" Chat Icon).
