average tax return for the first full year of owning a home...

i think it really depends on when you purchased your home - Jan or December, that would make a big difference in return

Totally depends on how many months you paid your morgatge too - Like PP said, the year we moved, we actually owed because we only paid mortgage for part of the year.
Depends on how much you have taken out of your paycheck, etc.

We bought our house in April and that year be both claimed 0, married filing single and got a substantial return. We also had large 403B deductions and educational costs that contributed to the size of that return.
