Babies who don't like to eat food
At 6 months, Josh will eat one meal every 3 days...and that meal I am practically standing on my head to get him to open his mouth.
I know he is hungry because as soon as I take him out of highchair he wants to nurse.
I have tried first thing in the morning, nothing. Nurse first, then cereal and fruit at 9:30-10 ish...nothing.
The one meal he sometimes eats is his leftover dinner. I will feed him around 6, he won't eat, take him for a walk, then he will eat. But that isn't everynight.
I introduced cereal at 4 months, he has never taken to it.
I made chicken soup the other day and gave him pieces, no interest.
He won't open his mouth. He talks with his mouth closed, laughs with his mouth closed. So I take him out, wash him off, and put him down as I walk away. I was beginning to think this was a game for him.
I don't want to force feed him, but ughhhhhhhh

Re: Babies who don't like to eat food
I read somewhere it takes up to 14 tastings of any food before a baby will like it. Have you tried mixing the cereal with a pureed fruit? That was the ticket for my son, and Cheerios were a huge hit back in the day too
In general, I would just put something in front of him at every meal just so to peak his interest. He's only 6 mos, so I wouldn't stress too much yet. Look at it as less to clean up off the floor

Re: Babies who don't like to eat food
When Noah was a baby he barely ate anything at all, he still isn't a huge eater (unless he is at nursery or his grandma is around) as long as he is getting his milk and he isn't wasting away, just take it slow and relax!
One day the food thing will click into place!

Maybe he is just not ready yet. I would just keep trying. Try not to feed him when he is really hungry. After his first feeding try the cereal about an hour later.

Re: Babies who don't like to eat food
thanks. Leo says to just leave him alone. Offer it to him, if he doesn't take, send him on his way. He thinks I am making Josh not like food by sitting there for 20 minutes.
I mean every kid grows up to be a person who eats right?
I have set out peas, watermelon, cantelope, chicken, carrots...nothing. no interest at all.
It's weird, when he does decide to eat, I can't get it in his mouth quick enough.
I will go and try the cherrios..he has so many allergies I hope there is no milk or soy in them.

Josh sounds so much like Paige. She is only 5 months and I have been feeding her solids since 4 months also. At first she didnt like the cereal, but then kinda used to it. Now, trying to feed her fruits and veggies is near impossible. She is also hit or miss about it. Sometimes she will open her mouth and sometimes she will just whine and grunt. I drives me crazy, its like im force feeding her. She likes her bottles but is picky about them also. She will drinks a few ounces then stop and will bite the nipple and play with it. I have to wait at least a half hour for her to finish the rest.

Re: Babies who don't like to eat food
Some babies never like baby food. My DS wouldn't eat any. I started giving him real food and he loves it.

I agree. Does he see other babies his age? It might help to hang out at feeding time with babies close to his age that are eating foods. Jealousy/envy is a big thing with kids. They don't want the other kid(s) to do something they can't. (I started walking at 10 months, then I fell a few months after that and got hurt and refused to walk for a couple months...my mom took me to a friend's house who's baby was younger/smaller than I was at this point and she was walking...I got jealous and started walking again that afternoon! )
Also, some people wait until 1 year to feed foods at all...so it's OK if he only wants milk.

I think my DS is getting bored with the baby food. He holds it in his mouth and takes forever to swallow it. The only thing he swallows faster is the peaches jars. But when I give him real food...he swallows that faster until he gets full...

Re: Babies who don't like to eat food
Hang in there. It can be very frustrating. DD wasn't interested in eating until a week before her 1st birthday. I was always worried because she is on the 3rd percentile for weight but her Ped never seemed concerned. They will eat what they want, when they want no matter what we do. Just keep offering in a gentle way.
