What did you do? What modifications did you do?
Thanks
Im interested as well!
I am not a doctor so take what I say as you will.
This is all MY understanding.
Eczema is generally an internal cause. Yes it can be from the wrong detergent but generally that is not the case. Obviously I would start with a detergent that is free and clear. I use trader joes.
I did a lot of research about leaky gut syndrome. Basically your stomach has teeny tiny holes and food and whatnot leaks into your body causing inflammation, various problems and some think eczema. The way to fix this is is sort of a multi touch approach. Some people are BORN this way.
1. Chicken broth. But more importantly bone broth. You can make it for cheap or buy it. I buy it frozen bc you need chicken bones (or beef) from grass fed and organic chickens but you need the feet too! I can't trick my mom into making it for me lol. It's better with the feet bc it's more healing. The end result is a chicken stock. You can use w soup or drink/sip daily. My daught drinks her "broth" w a straw and loves it. The gelatin vitamins and mineral literally "seal" the stomach lining. If this is too gross you can buy a product on Amazon prime called great lakes (green container) $20 and mix the powder in water. It tastes like nothing. A lot of my family members w bad knees and cartilage issues have become obsessed. Fills you up and is protein and legit tastes like nothing. You can mix into coffee (if you're an adult).
2. Probiotics. The best are fermented foods but kids will rarely eat that. There are tons of high quality chewables. In addition to that I make a "ginger bug", recipe on kula mamas blog. It's raw organic ginger and sugar. It takes 5-7 days to "grow" and end result is a bubbly yeasty spicy drink. I mix half w apple juice and my daughter calls it her "spicy apple cider". Loves it!
3. Diet changes. I've taken my daughter to two allergists. She is not allergic to anything apparently. They tell me to put cream on the eczema. I do and NOTHING happens. I know both dairy and wheat/gluten inflame the body. It's a fact. It inflames all of our bodies but most of us can handle it. So I removed both from her body for 3mos. I slowly reintroduced one back at a time. As of now she does eat both but limited. Dairy is 1x a week. Wheat is about every other day. I try to fill her w as much raw foods as possible. She does not eat any chemicals or dyes. She drinks TONS of water as I am constantly on her. Eczema is dry skin so staying hydrated is so important.
4. Cream/lotions/potions. Like I said nothing made much of a difference except two things. One is amazing. I got it at target ite called Shea moisture and is specially called eczema and psoriasis. It's a body wash I think? I liberally squeeze it into her baths. And the other thing is something I make myself. It's so easy. Shea butter, almond oil, mango butter with lavender and sacred frankensense, I melt together and whip into a body butter.
Also if any of you have kids with extreme cases look into the GAPS diet. It's a temporary extreme diet which lets you reintroduce the foods back in. But I didn't try it. I tried the above first and it worked. This winter my daughter had really dry skin only. Not patchy bleeding red blotches all over her body.
Also wanted to add last winter my daughter was sick w her asthma about 5x. It was bad. Her per refered us to lij basically saying she didn't know what else to do. Every time she would start coughing the eczema flaired up. My daughter also had the flu last year too.
This year she was "sick" one time. And when I say sick she started coughing, I cleaned up her diet (back really strict) started her with her inhaler and she missed one day of school only. Seems like this has been a bad year for kids and sicknesses and she avoided it all!
We also give elderberry twice a day for immune function. Hth

If you use coritsone you can only use it for 7 days. I took my kids to Dr. Kristal in New Hyde Park. He prescribed them Alcometasone and Mometasone. We bathe every day and use Aquaphor baby wash. We use CeraVe cream or Cetaphil Restoraderm.
I can't wait for our appt with that practice. Poor dd skin is so bad from the excema. Been waiting a month and a half !
Did you tell them it was an emergency and that the child was suffering? They got my DS in the dame day when I called them. IDK if its because he was only 2 months old but they were great about it when I told them it was severe.
I didn't, bc she doesn't react to her spots. They don't seem to itch her and they don't bleed, but there are many.

Thanks for taking the time to write all that out. I've heard about probiotics helping, but haven't tried it yet. I did stop by cvs and its like $30 for a months supply for the kids version! =/

I use Raw Kids probiotics--refrigerator section at Vitamin Shoppe. It's a powder so u can sprinkle into bottles, in food, whatever. It's around $20 and it lasts me a couple of months.
