Baby Fever
DH and I are finally moving into our house this week. We BOTH finally are talking baby but wanted to wait for a house. I am still untenured and next year is my tenure year. I so want to try since DH will be 35 and I am only a few years younger than him.
If it was you would you try since you have the house or wait for tenure?? We were going to start actively trying this July and hope for the best but as many of you know you cannot predict having a baby. Thanks for any info or advice

Re: Baby Fever
with the stress of moving, I would just wait. I am a "if it happens..." kind of girl, so i wouldn't even say you hae to wiat all the way until July EXCEPT that the 2 of you seem to have agreed upon it and it's really important [for your marriage] to be on the same page about TTC/kids/family in general.
Best of luck to you!

Re: Baby Fever
I am up for tenure this year and we are going to start trying in July. I already went off the pill so my attitude is if it happens it happens. I have a major case of Baby Fever and want to start trying ASAP but I understand that it would make more sense to wait till july so I have the baby at the end of the year. I think that you need to do what is best for you and your husband. There are always going to be things is life that you feel you should wait for but when is enough enough? Good luck and I wish you lots of:

I said to try now. Reason: so few get PG from the first try.. in fact it takes 6 to 1 year and sometimes longer. You just don't know..
For me, I wouldn't want to wait because of that.

I also say start trying now. I never thought it would be hard to get pregnant. I was petrified that I wasn't ready and started to put it off. Then I found out that we're most likely going to have issues. Everything I thought prior to learning this went out the window. We have been trying for 3 months now and know that it could take way longer.

what is meant to be, will happen. You will kick yourself if you wait until you think it's the right time and are unable to conceive. I hate to say it, but your age should be a factor in this decision.

i think you guys should follow your heart and do what feels right - if it was my choice.. i would try now..... you never know what can happen and how long it takes... i know lots of teachers try and schedule their pregancies around summer break and such, but that is really hard to do!!!

Re: Baby Fever
honestly, i would try. although there is a chance that it will happen right away, it could take months to years to get pregnant.

Re: Baby Fever
I don't know. Does having tenure affect your maternity leave or money paid while out? If it does, then I would probably wait until I know I'm going to get it.
DH and I also decided we would start trying when we had a house, and I got PG once we had our closing date. We weren't even in the house yet. Yes, sometimes it takes a while but sometimes it doesn't!
As long as you would be ok if it happens right away as far as your job, then there is probably no reason to wait.

Re: Baby Fever
Since both you and DH are under 35 and will be in July (or at least DH will just be 35 at that time) there is no reason to rush into it and not stick with the original timeline of July. However, if you have any reason to suspect that you will have problems getting PG (like your periods have always been highly irregular or something), then don't wait.

Re: Baby Fever
Being a teacher.... I would say wait for tenure!! In the long run, youll probably be happy that you spent the extra time getting you job in line and secured! Its not that far off!
good luck!

Re: Baby Fever
well, sorta similar situation. We were going to start TTC over the summer-- and I got a new job, although was not looking to necessarily change jobs.. So decided to push back 6 months-- so IF it happens right away-- I will be here a year before I need to tell them I am pg.
So I say-- maybe wait a few months til you have a bit more of a routine and focus on getting tenure. But that's just my opinion.

Re: Baby Fever
I say definitely try, you never know how long it might take. and if it happens right away, you probably won't even care about your tenure.

Re: Baby Fever
I would start trying now. we were going to wait and then my GYN told me that at my age (31) it could take me over a year to conceive even if there are no problems.
If you decide not to try - I would start keeping track of your cycle now and reading up on things. I wish that i had kept better track so I would have more knowledge now!
Good luck in whatever you decide!

Re: Baby Fever
I would wait until JUly, while hving a baby is so important, having a job to support them is equally as important!
July isn't that far away, and if you are over 30, go to the doctor for any necessary tests/exams to prepare and strat charting NOW so you are aware of your body when you are ready to start TTC.
GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!
