Baby got hit on the head with the toybar from bouncer, need support/advice
Bad mommy me was taking off the Rainforest bouncer toybar and it slipped out of my hands and smacked DD (4.5mths) on the forehead pretty hard. I called the ped...they of course said to watch her but I just need some support. I am so worried I will read into this and overanalyze her actions, behavior now. Have you ever done this, anyone? I feel so terrible, she cried so hard. Do you think anything could have happened to her from getting bonked by that toy bar? Of course she fell asleep about 10 mins after it happened so that worried me and DH, but I think we are probably reading into it.
I dont know what i need right now, just worried here I guess but dont know if I should be. I just feel so sad I hurt my baby, even though it was just an accident. How will I know if I REALLY hurt her if she is a baby who gets sleepy anyway?
Update in last post - she seems ok today thank God, other than a small red mark.

Re: Baby got hit on the head with the toybar from bouncer, need advice
DS has hit his head so many times I lost count. Trust me it wont be the first and it won't be the last. My scariest moment was when DS was about 2 1/2 mo. old. He was an early roller and I found out b/c he rolled off our king size bed onto the wood floor. I took him the ER right away thinking he would have brain damage and did not even show a sign of hitting his head.
They also like to sleep after hitting their head...not so much from actually hitting their head but b/c they knock themselves out from crying. Don't worry.
If they cry right away, stop crying after a few minutes, no nauseua or vomiting, if they weren't knocked out and if the pupils adjust correctly she will be OK!!!!

OMG, thank you so much. I feel so sad, so so sad...she cried really really hard but stopped after a min or two once i picked her up. She was calm before the incident, seemed tired, so after the hard crying, I too thought maybe it was the crying that might have tired her out. DH picked her up and she was so tired, she wouldn't wake up but we put her in her bathtub and then she was fine, kicking and playing.
I would have been panicked in your situation. What did they do in the ER, just curious? XRAY, MRI? Neither?
Thank you so much. The sleeping is the only thing that worried me, otherwise, she just ate, is loving her tv show right now but napping on and off (sometimes she does this, sometimes not).

Oh no, poor baby, I would just observe DD closely for the next day or so. Does she have a bump on her head? I have the RF bouncer too, and is always paranoid about the bar.
It probably hurt you more than it did your DD

No bump or red mark but of course I am analyzing her forehead and not sure if its a bump or the shape of her head (its equal on both sides).
I hate that bar, its so hard to pop off and once you do, you gotta grab it so fast or it can fall.

AWWWW... It happens. The mental list will get longer and longer of our "bad mommy" moments. Hell, with my foot surgery, it makes it tricky to get Bella in her carseat (she is 3 1/2) I bonked her head trying to maneuver her in more than I would like to admit...before now She just rubs her head and says, "Mooom, you banged my head again"
Just watch her. I am sure it was probably a lot less hard than you are replaying it in your head and she was also probably startled. She won't remember this either...

Re: Baby got hit on the head with the toybar from bouncer, need support/advice
omg i remember when I was trying to step over a high gate and was holding DD (she was like 3 weeks old) and I accidentally swung her head into the flat surface side of the book case. She screamed. I was so mad at myself and upset. I watched her like a hawk the whole night and she ended up being ok.
We have all been there and I feel your anxiety. I am sure she is fine.

Awww... I am sure she will be fine! When my DD was about 4 weeks old I was picking her up from the changing table and somehow smacked her head on the wall!! I seriously cried to my DH and told him that I think I really hurt her. He calmed me down by reminding me how resilient little ones are! Hang in there.... I'm sure she was just sleepy from crying.

Re: Baby got hit on the head with the toybar from bouncer, need support/advice
I have hit Rylans head more times than I can count. I know i've dropped the remote on him a few times when he was a few weeks old. I've his his head on the door jam once or twice at a few weeks old. Oh yeah...then there was the time he rolled off my chest hit the coffee table then the floor when he was first born.
I'm sure she's fine...it's much worse on us I think.

Just watch DD to see if her behavior changes, but I'm sure she's fine.
It happens to all of us... One time when DS#1 was around 3 months, he was sleeping on my chest and I guess I feel asleep too. Well the phone rang and startled me. I sat up so fast and next thing I knew DS rolled off me and onto the floor. He cried for a few minutes and then was fine. I was so traumatized I called my mother in NY crying. He's now almost 4 and I've totally lost count how many times he's fallen.

Agreed. I used to freak now I barely even flinch!
When DS was 4 months old I was at a christening feeding him and not paying 100% attention, I went to shift and smacked his head into a chair rail on the wall...the whole table stopped talking because the thump was so loud. We are lucky though DS doesnt seem to have pain sensors!
But seriously I could give you enough head bumping stories to make you feel better for YEARS to come!!!

Actually they didnt do anything but check him over and observe him for a few hours. They didnt want to do a CT Scan unless necessary b/c of the radiation (it's sometihng like 300 x-rays at once to an infant). Thank god he was ok but I still get nervous when DS hits his head. We have all tile and wood floors in our house...he has smacked his head a bunch of times especially when he was learning to crawl or sit up.

Re: Baby got hit on the head with the toybar from bouncer, need support/advice
DC have both hit their head so many times, I just figure that it makes their head stronger....
As infants, they've knocked into things. As toddlers, they don't realize that there are a few inches of skull above their eyes, so they often walk into shelves, tables, etc. As kids, they are always climbing, jumping.... and falling...
I get a little suspicious if I hear someone say that their DC has NEVER hit their head...

Thanks so much for asking Denise.
I checked on her often last night and kept her with us for 6 hrs after the head bump. She seemed ok.
Today she seems fine, but I do see a small red mark on her forehead, right between her eyes (where it pretty much hit). But this is a child who gets a red mark from even slightly rubbing her eyes (she has one every am by her eye, which takes hours to go away). But I don't feel a bump under it. So I think she is ok, I will keep watching her today but so far so good.
You all have been such wonderful friends, thank you.

Darn that rainforest bouncer. The same EXACT thing happened to me when DD was only a few months old. I called DH at work hysterical. It was the first time I had 'hurt' DD.
I hated taking that thing off the bouncer, it was hard.
Glad to here your DD is ok

Re: Baby got hit on the head with the toybar from bouncer, need support/advice
a couple of weeks ago my oldest dd was in my bed and wanted blankets on her so without looking tugged the blanket to put on her. Didnt see the remote control was on bed it bounced up and hit my youngest dd in the head. She was 6 weeks old or about.. She cried sooo hard. I felt horrible. Shes was okay. Things happen.
Your dd might have fallen asleep minutes later b/c of being tired from crying soo hard.
