Baby on the floor
Do you let your DC play on the floor?
I went to my friend's house and three of us have babies...one is 3 months like Steven almost is and one is 9 months. Well, the mommies of the other babies said that they don't put their DC on the floor. I was shocked. Steven loves playing on the floor and kicking and punching freely. Am I the only one that puts my almost 3 month old on the floor? He's been hanging out there since he was a week old

Re: Baby on the floor
how do you not put a 9 mos old on the floor? where does the baby play? If I kept Ellie off the floor at this age (8 mos) she'd have to stay in her PNP all the time and she'd never stand for it. All she wants to do is scoot around the house all day long!

Gotchya ;) how else would they learn to move/roll around if they can't play on the floor? DS has the most fun when he plays like this w/his toys, kicking and flailing his arms.

Ali is the same way She is on the floor - living room, kitchen, and she now crawls to the back bedroom - we give all the freedom.
What is her reasoning for not putting the baby on the floor?

I don't know. I thought it was strange that it was two different people. One has dogs and cats so maybe that's a concern, but I have a dog and cat and DS still goes on the floor. Maybe they feel that since you walk on the floor and it gets dirty, it's not healthy? As long as you vaccum and mop, there should be no problem. At least one would think, right?
They didn't say these were their reasons, I'm just speculating.

Re: Baby on the floor
Wow! I am just amazed. I let Ali go where ever she wants - especially now that she is crawling - she wants to seek out things, I can't see stopping her from that. I have a 90lbs (shedding Golden Retriever), and Ali still roams the floor. I vacuum every morning, and alot of times at night or any other time, I feel like I have to. I don't know - maybe they are afriad of germs or something.

Re: Baby on the floor
Sydney LOVES the floor!!! she is free to kick and roll over and play w/ all her toys... she is 5 months old and we have been doing this since she was just a few weeks.. we put down a few blankets to make it extra soft.

Re: Baby on the floor
As long as there's blankets and something under him, yes. I think I started when Liam was 1 month old. It's the only way they'll learn to roll over!

Re: Baby on the floor
This baby has lived on the floor since she's like a month old!
ETA: I would like to add that I JUST read the other night in a book I have that floors of places like your home, even the supermarket and restaurants are probably way less germy than you'd think, so much so that you could drop a piece of food and eat it and not worry about it, however, outside is the real problem because you don't know if there are pesticides or animal urine and feces. I am not a germ worrier, so I was happy to read that. Not that I'm feeding Ava food from the floor, but you get my point!

Isabella is everywhere! It would be hard NOT to let her on the floor. How are they supposed to explore and learn?

Re: Baby on the floor
DD has been on the floor since a couple weeks old, either on carpet or her playmat. We have hardwood floors. Now she just rolls everywhere. Today she rolled under my dining room table and i had to pull dust bunnies out of her hair Guess i missed some of those

Where else would you put your child to play? She is on the floor 99% of the time.

Re: Baby on the floor
i would think that if you don't put your baby on the floor it will hinder their motor development. there's only so much they can do in a PNP. JMO though, I'm no expert. how long does she plan to continue this?
