Babysitting question - sorry if this has been asked
Someone I know mentioned to me they know someone who needs a babysitter. It would be full time - 5 days a week from 8-5 I think. One infant around 8 weeks or so. What is a good rate to charge? Its a relative of a friend and they are not exactly rolling in the dough. I just want to be fair - both to them and myself. Also, my almost 3 year old will be home for the day.
ETA: My DH wants me to include the fact that I have 7 years nanny experience and I am 30 years old

Between 300-350 -- those are a lot of hours. I think that's pretty comparable to a daycare

I think 200-250 is fair since personally speaking, my child was in a center f/t for $250 a week last year.

For all intents and purposes, you'd be someone's nanny, right? I would say the going rate is $100/day for that - so maybe if you want to give a "discount" - $80/day?

Wow I would say no less than $400! Thats what I would expect to pay. I pay $40 a day for 3 hours so if it were 8 hours a day I would expect a min of $80.

Re: Babysitting question - sorry if this has been asked
i pay $50 a day. my nanny works 2, 3 or 4 days a week depending on my DH's schedule. my DS is 7 months old but we have been paying her the same since DS was 3 months old.
it would not be worth it to be to pay more than that (although i might go to $60 a day depending on circumstances) because they i might as well pay to put DS in day care, you know? (meaning that if i was paying more than $60 per day it would be cheaper to use day care, not that the care would be better.)

I don't think you can compare in-home care to a daycare center. A nanny always costs more. I did a lot of research a few months ago when I was looking for a nanny and agencies told me that the going rate on Long Island was $12 - $15/hour.

A nanny doesn't usually have their own child to care for with them on the job though, and they typically come TO you.

Agreed! my friend has a nanny, she comes to my friends house, and watches only my friends child. So she gets paid nicely.
however another friends sends her child to a persons home where this woman watches this child as well as her own toddler. She charges about $50-60 per day.
Its a very different set upIMO a dedicated nanny VS a SAHM making extra $$ on the side by watching another child
