do not stress!
first of all, 30% of women test positive for strep b! i can understand being let down that you cant labor at home but it will not harm you or the baby!!
5.14!! thats great for 37 weeks! some babies are born full term at 6lbs! (some even less!) if he comes now, he IS full term and that is not a pre-term or premature weight!
dont get down, be excited!! maybe you are just that much closer to seeing your LO!

I'm sorry about the bad apt but try not to worry....I had my DS at 37 weeks and he was 5lbs and 15 oz and prefect...I'm a 5'1 110 lb girl there's no way I would ever have a 9 lb baby....try not to worry he will be fine

I feel alot better after venting about it. It was just alot to hear at once, especially because every other appointment before this has been a breeze.

Try not to worry! I don't know alot about Strep B, but it seems like it's common and totally manageable.
My cousin had a very very similar 37 week appointment. Her placenta just wasn't giving the baby what it needed anymore. She was induced and had a beautiful baby who weighed more than they thought she would. Totally healthy and a rather easy delivery. I hope that your baby keeps cooking a bit longer. Don't stress you can totally do this. Sending you lots of prayers over the next few days/weeks!

My twins were born at 37w5d. DD weighed 4lbs15oz, DS weighed 5lbs1oz. I was strep B positive. They were both completely cooked and healthy. They went into the regular nursery and came home with me when I was released from the hospital.

I wouldn't panic about the weight. My son was born at 42 weeks at 6lbs, 3ozs. He was perfectly healthy and jumped up to 50% percentiile by 2 months. We have his one year appt next week and I think he'll be weighing in at over 20 pounds!

I was 5 lbs, 11 oz. Your baby is still a good size!
If you're positive for strep b, why don't they let you labor at home? (I don't know anything about this; I just had the test done yesterday).

Hang in there. There is always a plus/minus on those weight measurements of up to 2 pounds. Which is a huge difference.
I know the strep b can be nerve wracking. But with the antibiotics you and your DS will be just fine.
Don't be too sad. I am confident it will all work out and everyone will be perfectly healthy!!!!

first def sending lots of prayers your way. .
two, I would say the most important things is not baby's weight but that all organs and things are fully developed so I imagine your LO will be totally fine! lungs are developed at this point and I think that is the most important thing. .
so hang in there!!! and DEF don't feel like anything is your fault. . you totally took care of your LO while he was 'cooking' and have nothing to feel bad about. .
just aim for as long as you can and trust your doc and yourself and your LO!!!

I'm sorry. It's great though that your Dr is keeping a close eye on you and everything will be fine.
Try not to worry, 5lbs 14 ounces is still a good size.

I think once your water breaks they want to start you on IV antibiotics asap, so she said to go to the hospital if that happens. I think I can labor at home until my water breaks though. I have to confirm that at the next appointment

Thanks everyone. I feel alot better.
5lbs 14 ounces is a good weight and hopefully he will be even more by the time he comes!
Strep B stinks but what can ya do! A little antibiotics and we will be fine
The only worry i really have now is that they said if the contractions feel weird to call and so of course I will be over analyzing everything! lol I have a fear of the unknown! But I am sure everything will be fine and hopefully we make it until december so he can put a little more weight on
Thanks for making me feel better. I was so bummed before but now I am excited again. I might get to see my little dude sooner than expected! we shall see

At the end of my pregnancy w/  they told me she wasn't growing. @ 36 wks, she was 5lbs 4oz. they wanted to monitor me for 2 weeks, which we did. I asked if we should take the baby now, and they said no. Well, @ 38 wks, she hadn't gained an ounce!!! So, we induced labor. She was born at 5lbs 4oz. I couldn't believe how on the money they were.
Within those 2 weeks, I tried to eat burritos etc.. anything that would chubbie her up. Well, turns out that would've never worked. The baby will take from you what he/she can get.
Fast forward to this pregnancy and after learning that I have a blood clotting issue. They said this is very common after a 1st pregnancy. My specialist Dr. says, it's the placenta issue that started to occur during my pregnancy with DD, and was probably there the entire time, just wasn't picked up on. I'm on lovenox now and all is good.
Maybe at your next appt. ask if there is anything you can take to assist the placenta i.e. lovenox?
My DD came out strong as can be! She was all muscle and bones w/ fully developed lungs. If the Dr.'s aren't concerned about the baby, try to relax and rest on your left side. Your LO will be here happy and healthy.

awww jen..i am so sorry..i know i shouldnt be on here but just wanted to tell u 2 things
1.when my sister had my neice katrina..they kept saying how small she would be and they estimated her around a little over 7 lbs....turns out she was wrapped in a ball so tightly the were way off...she was 8 11 and 22 and a half inches long...when my sister was delivering they kept saying wow she just keeps coming out lol
2.when i was born i was only 4 6 oz..and look how good i turned out
i know its so stressful but know he is healthy and everything will be ok

He is so excited to meet you he wants to come early!!!!
I feel like there is always something that happens, during pregnancy.... be grateful this is a minor bump and you and the baby will be fine.
Maybe you will have another place setting at the table for thanksgiving!!!!

im sorry your feeling bummed about your apt... but honestly, 5lbs 14oz is a FINE wieght to be born at!!
plus -- the sonos couuld be off by a pound!! when i was admitted into the hospital when i went into labor they did a`sono & measured the baby at "just about 5lbs" (which confused me since he measured 5.5lbs @ 32 weeks)
turns out he was 5.9lbswhen he was born... so for all you know your baby could be well over 6lbs!!!
hang in there.... i know its scary -- but the doctors & hosptal know what they are doing & your LO will be fine!!

I'm sorry your appt. didn't go the way you anticipated.
As the other posters have said, you sound like you are in great hands with your doctors and your LO's current weight is strong weight even for delivery.
I totally understand the Strep B thing too. I was told yesterday I tested postivie too. I felt like a complete loser, but was reassured it's not my fault and really not a big deal as long as we get the antibiotics.
