Bad Diaper Rash/Sore Hiney Please Help!
DS is 14 mos and never really had a bad diaper rash b/f. All of a sudden in the past few hours he seems to have a terrible one - everytime he sits now he screams - everytime something touches it - he screams. He wouldn't even sit in the bath tonight  The inside part of his hiney is really red too in addition to the rash on the outside (sorry for the tmi) Is this normal? What should I do besides lubing up his bottom - I don't know how he is going to sleep like this:( Thank you!

Have you tried triple paste? If it's really bad I would call the dr in the morning and ask them to call in a prescription ointment...they may give an anti fungal one...my nephew just has this last week, and using the cream, it cleared up quickly and gave him relief almost immediately

For bad diaper rash I clean the area with warm cloths - appy Mylanta (yes - the anti gas liquid medicine) - let it dry a little - apply triple paste - let it sit a minute - then apply A&D. My ped told me to do this. I don't know if it's the layers or the Mylanta, but it gets rid of bad diaper rash in a day or two.

Just wondering...did he eat something different lately? I know DD used to get bad diaper rash from eating tomato sauce...really bad...it took me a while to figure it out, but once I did, it all made sense.

get milk of magnisa (sp) balmex and a and d ointment mix the three together and then at bed time lay him on his back with the diaper open, place a second one on top of him also open(tape the sides together loosely . paste it on him thick and in the morning he should be alot better.. trick i learned when i was working in the mother baby unit at stony brook

I would immediately make an appointment with the ped. My DD gets terrible diaper rashes like that & very often it is a yeast infection that can only be cleared up with prescription Nystatin & a prescription steroid. It works in about two days. I also put Triple Paste on top of both creams. If it's not an infection, then I recommend Triple Paste, baths with baking soda (about 2 T in the bathwater), keep DC diaper-free as much as possible to air it out, and cornstarch every once in awhile to encourage dryness. Good luck!
ETA: Use wet clothes/paper towels, not wipes because most wipes contain alcohol which can exacerbate the problem.

Thank you so much ladies - I am going to try all these tips tomorrow.
He didn't eat anything different but, he was constipated pretty bad the other day so I have been loading him up with foods to make things easier and I think maybe he's just been going too much
