Bagel Advice: How to keep fresh?

I've been given the dauntig task of bringing bagels down with me to florida. I fly in on saturday, but wont see my SIL until tuesday. Should I indvidually wrap each one? How long do you think they'll be good for?

hmmm, will you have access to a freezer before you see them? I always put pre-sliced fresh bagels in the freezer and when I'm ready to eat them, just toast them and they are perfect! I think if you leave them out they may get rock hard. Good luck!

I wrap them individually in tin foil then stick them in a ziplock bag. Still might be tough for that many days...the freezing option might work best.

I always freeze them. Then when, I'm ready to eat one I pop it in the microwave for a few seconds & then toast! Chat Icon

Re: Bagel Advice: How to keep fresh?

Should I buy them on friday afternoon, wrap them and freeze them, then put them in the suitcase with cooler packs? You think they'll make the trip to florida? Should I then freeze them again once I'm there?

I would buy thm Friday. I keep them in a ziplock bag. Once you get to where you are going stick them back in the freezer. They will be fine. Yummmm....NY BAGELS ROCK!

I wouldn't go too crazy, just freeze them, and I think you will HAVE to toast them when you get to Fla, though.

Re: Bagel Advice: How to keep fresh?

I would put them in Ziplock bags instead of wrapping in foil. They seem to stay fresher longer in the bags.

Re: Bagel Advice: How to keep fresh?

I seem to have the best luck if I have them in a paper bag and then put them in a ziploc bag, after getting out as much air as possible. I don't know why, but they don't seem to get as stale.
