Fake trees vs. fresh cut Christmas trees

We've always gone over to the North Fork and cut down a real Christmas tree, but this year I am thinking maybe fake is the way to go.... I'm worried that the baby will eat the pine needles and we are going away for 10 days at Christmas time, so the thing is definately going to die... What are your experiences with fake trees, where can I get a nice one??
TIA!

I said I would never get a fake one but we fell in love w/ one we saw in Ace. It looked so real! The dog doesnt touch it either. Last year he tried to eat branches and needles off the real one.

I love real trees, and my cats are pretty good about leaving it alone. I sort of need the smell to get the holiday spirit going. How about a fake tree and some fresh wreaths for the smell?

Chat Icon That's how my DH feels! I like the smell of a real tree & not having to store it.

We always get a real tree, but never cut it down. Last year I boguht it from a charity sale & they named the trees. Ours was Ray-ray. Chat Icon

Ann, A balled tree is a living tree, with the roots wrapped, so you can plant it.

That's what I thought, because I know what a root ball is, but I didn't know that anybody would buy a Christmas tree with a root ball and put it in their house!

sometimes they do so that they can plant it later, I've only heard bad things about that though.... it's hard to move it, and it usually dies because it's sooo cold out when you plant it....

Fake, I am allergic to real. One year my family tried it, on Dec 26 at 7:30 in the morning, the thing was bare and thrown out near the trash. I could not take it anymore.

DH insists on real, but we always did fake when I was growing up. Dad put pine air fresheners under the tree skirt to make it smell like the holidays! Chat Icon

The few years my parents had a fake one, we did buy a real wreath & some branches to wrap oround the stair rail for the scent. I never thought of air fresheners though!

We have an artificial tree...our place is too warm & too dry to keep a real tree. Plus DH used to be a volunteer fireman and is very against them for safety reasons. Personally, I hate the mess of a real tree.

We bought a beautiful tree at some warehouse place in PA but I have seen beautiful ones in Fortunoffs, target, etc. They have really come a long way from when I was a kid.

My mom was too and she was sad they day we had to go fake.....

We have a small fake one. For apartment living, where we don't have much space or control over the heat, it works best for us.

Fake tree all the way.... I hate the smell of pine in the house. It gets so concentrated that it gives me a headache. Not to mention the fact that having one is a PITA.... you have to make sure it has water and clean up all the fallen needle.

Fake! I already have it up. I would be too scared about the fire hazard with a real one and I couldn't deal with the mess!

I agree for the exact same reasons.. I so dislike the smell of pine, the mess, the work (and the fact my cat is impossible with any type of 'live' plant or tree) that I always go the route of a fake tree

Re: Fake trees vs. fresh cut Christmas trees

We have had a real tree for 12 years and said I would never have a fake because my parents did. Well, we just broke down and got a fake one this weekend. I am tired of arguing over the lights and the mess. I am VERY picky about trees too though so I had to pay alot for this one to have it perfect!
