Baked potato
I know this is probably such a ridiculous question, but how do you bake a potato?
DH is awesome on the grill and I'm a pretty decent cook, but every single time we try to make baked potatoes, they come out hard and gross. We've Googled and followed the directions, but it doesn't seem to help! Help us! TIA!

Re: Baked potato
i just made baked potatoes on the grill last night and they were delicious! you just clean them, put some oil and some spices in a piece of tin foil, wrap the potato up and leave on the grill for 45-60 minutes!

Re: Baked potato
I put them in the microwave (I use the potato option on the mirco and if it's not enough I put it in longer). They should be soft when they are done cooking.

Re: Baked potato
Baking a potato in the oven or on the grill def takes at least an hour. To cut down the time, I ususally put them in the microwave for 5 minutes first. Then I brush the outside with olive oil, sprinkle with salt and pepper and wrap in tin foil before I toss them on the grill. This way they only need to be on the grill for about 20-30 minutes. Oh and as another poster mentioned, you have to poke holes in the potatoes before putting them in the microwave.

Re: Baked potato
You can get metal picks - to lace up a turkey - if you insert it into the potatoe, it will cook it from the inside too since the rod heats up.
Usually about 10 to a bag, with a big turkey around it and a piece of string.
I microwave for about 3 mins then finish in the oven. I wrapp the potatoes in foil w/ butter and seasalt.
(google "turkey lacers" - you'll see under images/shopping what I'm talking about)

Re: Baked potato
I wash the potato and then wrap them in aluminum foil and bake in the oven (425 deg.) for 45 mins. I poke it with a knife to see if its soft.
So easy!

Re: Baked potato
I scrub them then make a slit in the top and pop them in the microwave until I can get a knife through it. then i pop the in the over or in foil on the grill to crisp the outside!
