Ballet / Tap Classes - question?

DD is 4 1/2 -she will turn five in Feb next year.

She took a ballet class when she turned three, showed no interest last year so I did not enroll her but now wants to go again so should I put her in the 3-4 class or see if they will take her in the 5-6 even though she wont be 5 until the beginning of next year?

TIA

Re: Ballet / Tap Classes - question?

I do not have children but I did dance for 20 years of my life & my mom is a receptionist at a dance school so I think I could offer some good advice.

If this was the dance school I went to the owners would put your daughter into a 3-4 class & see how she does. If she is following well & getting bored easily they would her in the 5-6 class & see how she does there. If she is being challanged & about the keep up then that would be her class. If she looks lost or seems to be discouraged then she should be in the 3-4 class.

I do not know how other dance schools place kids but this is the way I am used to.

As a parents you should remember:
You are sending her so she can learn & have a good time.

Re: Ballet / Tap Classes - question?

Thanks for your replyChat Icon Yes I am sending her there so she can have fun and learn and I guess I just dont want her to be bored and be zoning out as to be honest the timing is a PITA so I could do without sending her so if I am going to I want her to be there having a good time and into it....can I ask you another question now that I have your earChat Icon she has a choice of a morning class or an afternoon class - the morning one would mean taking her straight from her Pre K class to dance and the afternoon one would mean chilling out after pre k and then taking her later in the day and hoping she wouldnt be too tired and chilled out to actually want to go. Any insight on this?

Thanks SO Much.

I'm a dance teacher and I think enrolling her in a 5yr. old class would be best. She will do better among kids her own age, there is a huge difference between 3 and 5....at 3 the teachers are usually trying to get the kids to pay attention for a few minutes and stay in one spot...at 5 their attention span is longer and they are able to retain much more.
