Question about classes

Hey ladies,

Will my doctor tell me when he feesl I should start looking into the different classes (breastfeeding, lamaze, etc.) or did you just take it upon yourselves to get registered? Did you take classes through your doctor's office?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Question about classes

My doctor gave me a form from LIJ listing the classes and I asked her when I should register. She advised to start looking into the classes once I was into my 20th week.

I actually just signed up for them now - taking 4 (by my own choice - Lamaze, breastfeeding I & II and baby care). When I called LIJ they said that January/February classes were filling up but the months after that are all still fine...plenty of time.

Re: Question about classes

My doctor gave me a schedule of classes and said -- pretty much -- "sign up or don't... entirely up to you." I hear mixed things about classes; some BTDT moms say they're glad they didn't bother, while others felt like the Lamaze/birthing info was worth it. I haven't yet decided what I'm going to do, but right now I am leaning toward getting a DVD instead or something like that...

Re: Question about classes

I am delivering at South Nassau in Oceanside. My dr. mentioned that my hospital offers all of the classes and that they are very good. I actually just signed up for a bunch today.

Re: Question about classes

I know Good Sam offers a bunch. we just did early prego one & have now decided to do lamaze & later on caring for your newborn. We also HAVE to take a C-section class w/ DH or he will not be able to be present should a C-section occur (they make you take this).

My dr. also offers a prego class which I'm taking this sat. am

Re: Question about classes

My doctors SO is a nurse and teaches childbirth classes so we got her number from him.

We just had the class last night and it was great. It was from 5-9 and it was a private class.

Does anyone have some info on places that do classes on the evenings or weekends (other than at the hospital?). I'm delivery at Stony Brook, but their childbirth education class is during the day and I can't do that since I work.
