Bamboo as screening
We are looking to get some bamboo plants to use as screening... any ideas where to get it? I've been looking online, but I don't know enough about it, I had no idea that there were sooo many different kinds

Be VERY careful!! This stuff spreads like wildfire, it will invade the rest of your yard and your neighbor's yard and it is difficult to remove.
I'd highly recommend using a privet hedge or another more controllable hedge to create a privacy screen.

I've heard that too about it spreading like crazy. I tried pulling them out once(real small ones too) and these things would NOT budge!

Re: Bamboo as screening
I just saw a court case on one of those judge shows on TV the other day about bamboo... The stuff spreads like crazy and there is no controlling it, it grows very tall very qucikly and more or less invades everything. They said the correct way to plant bamboo is to dig a trench around the area that you want it in and place a plastic barrier a certain amount on inches into the ground so that it dosnt spread.
I dont remember the case completely but they were sueing the neighbor b/c the bamboo was invading their $$$$$ home and property. Once the judge saw the pictures and saw how quickly it grew she awarded them a large sum of $ to get the thing under control.

So true. If you really want to use it I suggest planting in pots so you can control it. Not sure tho if that will even keep it under control...

Re: Bamboo as screening
I want to plant it as well, our neighbor next door has it, and he dug the trench and put in a steel barrier to keep it from spreading. We have tall bushes now, but I like the bamboo better.

Re: Bamboo as screening
good to know...My DH wants to plant this because it does grow so quickly..because our yard is very open to our next door neighbors..l but we'll have to keep it contained
