Bar Mitzvah Gift Help
We have a bar mitzvah on Saturday - a woman that my DH works withs son. It's at the Thatched Cottage and starts at 12:30.
How much should we give as a gift? I was thinking $100 - but DH is thinking more along the lines of $150-$175.
When we go to family/friends Christenings and parties we usually give anyway between 100-150 depending on the circumstances....I think it's weird to give someone that we don't even know more then friends/family.
What are your thoughts? DH told me to come on here and see what you girls would give lol.

Re: Bar Mitzvah Gift Help
I would give a gift in multiples of 18 - it's a Jewish thing (18 means "chai" which means life).
and IMO, $100 is PLENTY!

Re: Bar Mitzvah Gift Help
$118
I think the number 18 means good health or something? I heard you always give increments of 18? Honestly, I might have made that up...

I know - but honestly - I'm too lazy to get a savings bond.

Re: Bar Mitzvah Gift Help
I agree $100 is enough. I have one on Saturday too and have never been to one and it is Saturday night at La Grange Inn and I am giving $150.

For a family member, I would give around $150, but I think you're fine staying closer to $100 since you barely know the person. Like some other ladies said, I might to $118 instead, to add the chai.
