Basal cell skin cancer
It is suspected I may have this on my face. I am going to have a biopsy first. I am concerned about scarring. It is very small. Can anyone share what their treatment was. I am really concerned about facial scarring.
Thanks!

Re: Basal cell skin cancer
My FIL has had it a few times on his face. It is not considered a deadly form of skin cancer. Treatment is generally removing it by cutting it out. If you are worried about scaring definitely have it removed by a plastic surgeon rather than a dermo.

My dad had it removed from his face too. There is minimal scaring. And he had a huge incision done

Re: Basal cell skin cancer
I am in the same boat. I am having a biopsy on a likely BCC right smack in the middle of my nose on the 21st :(. I'm worried about it being really noticeable too but don't really have any choice so I'm just going with it and hopefully can eventually cover any scar. They aren't bad unless you leave them. They grow and then they have to take much more.
ETA: MOHs is the best way to go on your face if it is a bcc. This has the best success rate and its a way for them to take the minimal amount of skin.

I had 10 hours of MOHS surgery on my face when I had horrible basal cell carcinoma removed and you can't notice a thing!! I had about 60 stitches and nobody can tell!

Thank you. So sorry you are going through this too. How are they taking the biopsy? I am afraid that if it comes out not to be BCC, that just the biopsy will cause a scar. Usually when I have other areas of my body biopsied, they take the whole thing.

Biopsy won't scar - they take a tiny amount!

Can I ask where you went for the surgery?

Advanced dermatology in west Islip and then I had a separate plastic surgeon come in and stitch me up.

Re: Basal cell skin cancer
I'm assuming a shave biopsy. Honestly there is something there now that totally sticks out to me- its the first thing I see when I look in the mirror... other people don't notice it until I point it out. Mine was what I thought was a pimple, scarred and never really went away. I'm hoping its not too deep so just a layer or two. Not sure how they will stitch my nose but not looking forward to this whole process at all!
