My dog had skin cancer...

She's ok.. but I never heard of this, so I wanted to post it here so everyone checks their dog!!!

Back in April I felt a lump like thing on my dogs side. It felt like a cyst under the skin. I showed my mother and she took her to the vet. Vet said it was an ingrown hair and it would "pop" through on it's own. Fast forward to June and the "ingrown hair" looks infected. It's huge and oozing something Chat Icon. Mother takes dog back to the vet and vet tells her it looks infected and puts the dog on antibiotics. After 2 weeks on antibiotics the "ingrown hair" doesn't look any better, so Sadie goes back to the dr. The vet now decides she wants to remove the area and send for a biopsy. 2 days later we find out it was skin cancer. The vet said once she cut Sadie open she saw that the area to remove was HUGE.. it was so deep. They got all the cancerous cells out, so Sadie's ok, my mother just has to keep an eye on her and give her body checks to make sure no other "lumps" develop.

I've never heard of a dog getting skin cancer... she's not even outside THAT much.. and she's a black lab, so she's completely covered in hair.. either way.. she's ok for now.. I just wanted to share!!

Wow! Thanks for sharing! I never knew dogs could get skin cancer! I totally thought the hair would prevent it.
