basement floor issues - need advice
the basement has old vinyl tile floor I was googling to see if we could put vinyl tiles over old vinyl tiles in a basement and found that most floor tiles prior to 1970's had asbestos so demolishing the floor is a bad idea.
I really wanted to put vinyl tiles over it but now I'm not sure - any suggestions?
We can't afford ceramic tile right now and we just want to make it clean and comfortable so we can hang out down there...

I dont know how well they would stick, but you could do it.
You do not have to disturb those asbestos tiles. we have asbestos tiles in our basement, DH did pull up some (were we put ceramic tile) and I yelled at him for doing this (but that is another story) but in the other areas we just carpeted right ontop of it.

We thought we had the same problem but found out ours were not asbestos. Maybe you could take a picture and go to a tile place and ask them.

what size are the tiles that are installed now? if they are an 8 x8 then they are probably the old asbestos. I had them though out my entire house. I pulled them up without even thinking twice. There is such a small amount of asbestos in them that it shouldn't matter. If it is a 12 x 12 but still old tile you may still have asbestos cause it will be in the glue they used.

Re: basement floor issues - need advice
if they are stuck on pretty good i would tile over, if not just wear masks/eye gear open windows and get rid of them. I know its dangerous but they are not as bad as the old wraps they have on pipes. But this is something i personally would take a chance with you might not want too.

They will stick just fine and you can easily do it. No reason not to.
