Need quick "tipping" advice re" floor refinishing

the guy is coming today to sand and refinish our parquet floors.

it's ONE room, about 320 square feet. he is my uncle's neighbor.

he owns his business (which is flooring).

he is charging us $550.

I would only tip him when he's completely done.

I gave my guy $20

he's based in SI.

I live in BK.

I don't think Manhattan is a far stretch (if that is what you mean)

and thanks Em, for being NO help in answering my question Chat Icon Chat Icon

I do not tip owners. If he has a helper, I'd give him/her/them, $20 (each).

I think you paid too much for 320 sf....it is like $1.71 a sf....the usual rate is 1.35....I wouldn't give him a tip on top of that..... just my opinion....

$1.35 is pretty cheap. Cheapest I ever saw was $1.50 sq ft and on the avg up to $2.50 sq ft (all depending on the exact job being done)

I just asked Mike...he said it was pretty reasonable...if it includes refinishing AND lacquering...a small tip would suffice.
