Basement waterproofing

Everytime we get a heavy rain we end up with water in our finished basement. We're considering having the foundation waterproofed from the outside. Has anyone ever done this? And if so, did it solve the problem?

Re: Basement waterproofing

We had a quote done for our partial basement and it was $8000. We ended up getting a french drain.

Re: Basement waterproofing

We just discovered over the weekend that there is water in our basement...what exactly is a french drain system and how much does it cost approximately?

Re: Basement waterproofing

Have you checked the easy stuff first? All of the gutter downspouts should be emptying well away from the foundation (6 feet or so). Is all of the ground sloped away from the house? Are the gutters clean, and all of the water is going down the downspouts?

Is it one isolated area, or seeping through the walls?

We used http://www.homehealthyhomes.com/
and they were about half of waterproofing the outside of the house.

The dig a drain in your basement floor that goes to a subpump.

The best time to get an estimate is when it had not rained in awhile.

Re: Basement waterproofing

My brother's friend just quoted me $600 to dig a trench around the house, wire brush the foundation, fill any cracks with hydraulic cement and then seal the entire foundation with tar. He said he's done this about 15-20 times and he's never had anyone report an issue. This seems too good to be true, so I'm guessing he may owe my brother a favor.

The house we are buying has the same problem and DH said he could do the exact same thing himself. He is in Construction so he hopefully knows what he is talking about. But he says it wont be expensive.

We will see.
