basement windows

has any one ever expanded a basement window? we are putting out master bedroom in the basement but right now there is only one VERY small window... my dh said that we can have it made bigger but i was just wondering if anyone had a clue how much this runs?

I just asked DH because he did this in our basement himself. We are making a guest bedroom down there so the window must be an egress window to make it adhere to code...basically, you have to have a window large enough to escape through if there is a fire or other emergency.

Since DH did it himself, he spent about $700 for the window and the window well outside and rental of a saw to cut the concrete wall. He thinks if you got someone to do it, it should cost you between 1500-2000. Since you are messing with the structure/foundation of the house, make sure you get someone who specializes in this kind of work.

Thanks so much for the info jen... my FIL did it in his own home about 20 years ago and so the price of things has changed but we planned on doing it ourself i was just curiours if anyone had price ranges and you did which is aweosme! thanks again

also if you can't grade away from the window there may be the added cost of stone to build out an area of egress

- that is what we have to do for one room - we have ahigh ranch
