DH and I closed on our house this past Friday and we're looking to do a bathroom and (slight) kitchen renovation. Bathroom needs to be gutted, but no plumbing needs to be moved. We would only do tile in the shower and on the floors and then we'd need a new tub, toilet, vanity, medicine cabinet. Bathroom is 8x6. Nothing fancy or custom, just decent quality stuff. I wanted to budget about 5k, does that sound unreasonably low? I'm going to call some companies, but wanted to know if I was in the ballpark of normal.

For the kitchen, has anyone looked into just having cabinet doors replaced instead of a full cabinet install? My cabinets are in good condition, I just don't like them so much. I have no idea what this would cost, but I wouldn't need custom and I'd be willing to switch the doors out myself.

Finally, can anyone recommend a good contractor? We are in South Shore Nassau.
