Bathroom remodeling company
They came to my house last night to give us an estimate to redo the bathroom. They were there over 2 hours showing us stuff and trying to convince us why to use them. We weren't ready to say yes or no, we just wanted an estimate and they pressure you to sign a contract right there! DH was like, we can call you when we know what we want to do. They were like, well, this date might not be available and most people sign the same day we come, blah blah blah....how annoying!!!!!

Omg, we had the same problem with Champion Windows. We told them we weren't ready to make a decision, and the guy said, well, if I put a gun to your DH's head could you make a desicion? We threw him out of our house.
I called and complained.

They were like, what if we threw in a full body shower system for free? Yeah, ok, the bathroom estimate was $14k...nothing in that price is FREE!

I would say to you and your DH do not rush into anything with contractors. Always take your time. When we remodeled our entire home we wanted the everthing to be top notch but at the same time we did not allow any of these freaking contractors to push anything down our throats.
Absolutely, with that price there is nothing free. Who are they trying to fool.

We will get many estimates. They didn't even have any cabinet choices, one plain style...just different colors. I like the furniture style cabinets.

Re: Alure remodeling
I wont mention names - but a contractor was at our house to give us an estimate on a Treated Wood Deck. 16X24 with no steps and no side railings.
He wanted $8000
Danielle said he kept showing her pictures of his past work and she just wanted him to leave Scott

I love the furniture style also. We purchased stuff from Neiman Marcus and Horchow.
They can keep their plain style to themselves.

Re: Bathroom remodeling company
Because homes are not selling as quickly and interest rates have creeped up, making financing home improvement projects through equity more expensive, things have dramatically slowed down for contractors.
My FIL is a kitchen designer and while he is mostly booked through next spring that is from jobs he signed months ago. He has a 40 year reputation in the business is semi-retired (no longer has a showroom) and only works on word of mouth now. While he is still getting calls, it's not the same amount per week he used to get. Like I said, he's semi-retired and only started the business up again with the refinancing boom several years ago. He doesn't have a staff, rent to pay etc. He can close it all up with the last job and spend time with his grandkids. He doesn't need to do it.
I remember the name of company you posted. They are under pressure. They spend tens of thousands of dollars each month in advertsing and have a HUGE payroll of employees, and expensive showroom real estate. They got used to the wave but it's not guaranteed. It's a very cyclical business tied to the economy.
EDIT for spelling.

Re: Bathroom remodeling company
I hate people like that. DH always brings them in when I'm not around so he can tell them, "well, I have to discuss it with my wife first", but I guess too many people do that these days because everytime we call someone to come in for an estimate, the first thing they ask is whether or not his wife will be around Just last week we brought an electrician to our home - he was trying to convince me we needed something like 16 - SIXTEEN large recessed lights in the living room. Ummm, hello, I really don't need stadium lighting in my home!

I hate pushy sales people. Theresa is right though, I think I know who you are talking about and they are so big they don't care anymore. They just want to get the money and have a signed contract.
I don't know how they expect you to make a major decision like that without getting estimates and doing research.

Let's put it this way... they are the sponsor of the LI houses on Extreme Home Makeover
They are trying to " 'lurre" you in

Re: Bathroom remodeling company
But it wasn't SAID
You know what, as my house post says... I did an Extreme home makeover too and had a wonderful mostly two man crew, plus an electrician, CAC, seperate wood floor guy, banister guy but 85% of the work was done by a two man crew in less than 4 months. No pressure, they are like family (my FIL has known George for over 30 years), I could trust them in my house and making decisions I would agree with, wouldn't cheat me out of money or quality... it was such a pleasant experience I called George and his son my "Rent a Husbands" or my "Other Husbands". I had no problems and it was enjoyable because everyone was a consummate professional.
Excellent contractors don't need hard sells. The VERY best, most trusted and most professional, get most of their referrals through word of mouth and are booked up for months. People LOVE my FIL. It was his customers that BEGGED him to come out of retirement, he did their kitchens 20-30 years ago and they were petrified to hire someone else who would rip it out, again or in their next home, just to get the 1/3 deposit and would take 4 months to redo a kitchen. A kitchen should take ABSOLUTELY no more than three weeks MAX and shouldn't be started until all materials are on site. This is how my FIL and George operate but it takes the ability to manage your cash flow to do this. Sadly, even the bigger companies... They are good craftsmen but not astute business people and that is just as important.

This is EXACTLY what I was going to say. If they are that fantastic, they shouldn't have to sell their work so hard, and they are busy enough that they aren't going to waste 2 hours trying to sell you on their work.

YES, my FIL and his installer do not do one bit of advertising... unless you count the name and phone number painted on the side of George's and his son's truck. My FIL only has business cards and will only hand them out on request, he never offers.
Since we bought this house I can't tell you how many "amateur leaflet" pieces of paper advertising various services I've gotten in my mailbox. Some from guys who claim to do EVERY job imaginable but they can't spellcheck a one page typed ad from the computer I wouldn't have them touch my house with a "ten foot pole"... i don't think I could trust them to install a mailbox.
If you encounter a hard sell, RUN don't walk in the other direction

OHG...was this Rebath or one of those Bath Fitter places. We had one guy give us an estimate for our downstairs basement. He was here for like 3 hours, a HUGE bag of samples, we had to watch a video on his laptop for G*d's sake. We said, " we'll call you." (meaning c-ya). And he went on and on how the price wouldn't be good after he walked out the door (like $15,000 for a basement bathroom was such a good deal). Ugghh...salespeople are so annoying sometimes!
