Bathrooms in basements
We are thinking about adding a 1/2 bath to our basement when we finish it this summer. We spoke to a plumber who said we would have to get eith an Upflush Toilet or Sewage Ejector Pump since we are below ground. Does anyone have either of these and would like to comment?

Re: Bathrooms in basements
We had a pump for our bathroom in the basement. we actually had 2 bathrooms down there, one was a half and the other was a full. We had a huge basement. I do remember my dad saying the pump was expensive but its so worth it, and it does make a funny noise too but who cares. The mess was b/c they had to break up the cement floor and deep for the pipes and for the pump. Jack hammer here you come!

Re: Bathrooms in basements
Growing up, we had a bathroom in the basement (I don't know what kind) the pump went into the ground. Yes, a jakehammer was used and a lot the cement had to get out of the basement.
It worked great!!!! Never had a problem. When the round thing in the ground got full the pump turned on and it sounded like a flush. All the waste was pumped out. I had my room downstairs and the bathroom was off it. So this was a great choice. It also collected the sink and bath water!

Re: Bathrooms in basements
We are just about to do the same thing. MY DH and his uncle are going to put it in the ground. THe Pump is actually across the room for me and it's HUGE. I don't know how this thing is gonna fit in the ground! Unfortunately if your basement is below ground level you need something to pump the wate up and out. I think the Pump is pricey, but luckly family members are in the plumbing business.
