Be honest - vacationing with a 14 month old
We have been debating going to Italy with my parents for some time now. The trip would be all paid for by them.
We would fly into Rome for a few days. My parents would be with us - they would take care of Jack and DH and I would site see.
Then we would go to the Amalfi coast (Positano, Sorrento, Capri) for a nice relaxing week where we would be meeting up with other friends/family.
Does this sound like an impossible thing to do with a 14month old? I know how active they get at that age.
Pls. be honest - and tell what you would do!
Thanks!

Depending on your child's temperment, it might work - with mine - NEVER! It would be impossible for us to see what we came there to see and not worth all the work.

We went away when Andrew was 15 months old and it was sooo much fun. I would def do it again. He is a very easy going child so it really helps. He also adapts well to change.

See, that's the thing - I have no idea how he'll be at that age. He's only 5 months now so he'll be so different. I need to decide by the end of January though.

Andrew's temperament has never changed. The only difference was he was walking at 15 months. I think it would be great.

My 14 month DD is just a barrel of energy. I'd be chasing her more than anything else. My DD has always been high maintenance though. Even at 5 months, I could tell that she would be a handful in the future.

Re: Be honest - vacationing with a 14 month old
We took Noah to Florida when he was 14 months old and it was a nightmare. He got an ear infection on the flight out, and two days before leaving, he got Chicken Pox! In between though, he was fine.
But...he was a handful, there was no relaxing, no sight seeing, no shopping, it was all about running after Noah. Making sure he didn't fall into the water, bother other people etc etc...and it was hard at night because we wanted him to go to sleep, but then we were banished to sit on the balcony of the hotel room to eat so he could sleep.
Needless to say, we aren't going to Florida again this year, we are having our bathroom redone.
eta...also, for us, we find getting back to normal after the jet lag to be really a big pain, this time around it took us about 3 weeks to get him sleeping normal again. If its a once in a lifetime type holiday, I wouldn't personally take my 14 month old.

I haven't gone away with the kids yet but I really can't see it being any different than if you were home and decided to go out all day. The toughest part might will probably be the jet lag but that goes for the adults too. I think if you try and keep the routine it should be ok.

I think it's totally do-able! Definitely take this opportunity for you, DH and even for Jack. How amazing to go be able to go to Italy!
Enjoy! I am sure that Jack will be great - plus you have your parents for help. When you are on your own take him to the beach run him around in the sea air and I bet he'll be knocked out each day!

Same for me as far as Luka. His temper pretty much stayed the same and he never liked strollers and still doesn't. But it still wouldn't stop me from going. Chris on the other hand he wouldn't go . I am actually contemplating going alone to Croatia in the summer because I want to go so bad and take them.

Jack is pretty high maintenance now - but will hang out in his stroller for longer periods of time. And, I will have family there for help.
I just don't know.

I would go!! It will be a great experience for all of you. I'm sure it will be A LOT of work, but you have your parents to help. I probably wouldn't do it without there help, but that will make all the difference! You'll both have a chance to relax some of the time! It might help to expect some craziness and not go into it expecting or hoping for a perfectly smooth sailing trip... I say go for it!!

JUST GO. I didnt goto Australia with my mom a few yrs ago (before kids) and I regret it now.
At that age, they adapt and love to see whats new around them. My son was 14months when we went to Disney and he was great. even on the CAR RIDE THERE
GO. Have faith in yourself. your family will have fun with him, and you will have a blast.
have I convinced you yet ???

Re: Be honest - vacationing with a 14 month old
I know for me, I would definitely take the trip- and I have a very active, somewhat temperamental child. He's 13 months now and has been walking since he was 11.5 months. I know that he would probably spend limited time in his stroller and we would wind up letting him walk or carry him, but I don't think that's such a big deal. And it's not like you won't have back up duirng the site seeing part. As far as the relaxing portion, I'm sure he will LOVE going to the beach. We took Ds to Florida at 10.5 months and pretty much spent the whole time in the pool.

I would go with my DD if I had the opportunity. I would expect to take it easy and not do too much in too little of time. And expect that plans may have to change.

Re: Be honest - vacationing with a 14 month old
we just got back from Italy/Switzerland a few weeks ago. Ella was 16 months.
She was great.. I would definitely go - you can't pass up a week on the Amalfi Coast!!
Traveling with a toddler is not as relaxing as past vacations, but still totally worth going, especially with your parents to help!

Re: Be honest - vacationing with a 14 month old
Josh will be 1 this month. I would totally go.
We have taken him with us while we hike and ski, to Yosemite for cabin living with bears...
The important thing is to make sure he gets his sleep. Naps and an early bed time. We were out of town for a wedding and things were thrown off mixed with a 3 hour time difference made a horrible ring bearer
Especially with your parents help, it will be great.
We are planning on going to PR when he is 16 months.
