Be honest... do you think you're vain?
One thing I've learned with my pregnancy is that with all pg facts/symptoms, I've also acquired one not really mentioned in the pg books: VANITY! In my defense, I have never gained as much weight (would fluctuate within 5-10lbs), or changed as much as I have now (eek, stretch marks and cellulite now!?)... I guess in a way, I never once thought I was vain before, because I never had the chance to be vain (I had hardly changed physically most of my life). Because of I'm a casual & very low-maintenance type of person, I never knew how vain I could be!
Anyone else feel like this? Or will I be sent to the corner for being so conceited?

I don't think you are being vain or conceited. I think it is normal to see all the changes that happen to your body during pregnancy and feel like you don't like the changes. I mean, how many people like to gain weight, get stretch marks, and see their body morph in to something that it never has before? I look at my body all the time and say to myself "OK, when I start working out again I am going to do this or that". I have already decided to get laser therapy for stretch marks once I am done having kids.
People might disagree with me, but I don't think this is being vain. I believe it is taking control of your body and not letting yourself go. I know a TON of people that have gained weight with pregnancies and did nothing after to loose the weight. While that is fine for them, I don't want to look at my body ten years from now and think what the heck happened to me?

this is why i am so supersensitive and nervous about packing on pregnancy weight....i, too, realized that I must have been vain (now I was not skinny, skinny to begin with either...but normal!)...I'll join you in your corner though....just tell me if my butt is getting too big there!

I was just discussing this with DH. I'm much more vain than I thought I was.

Re: Be honest... do you think you're vain?
I'm with you guys. I never obsessed over weight or worried about what I ate might cause x amount of weight gain until very recently. At first I was excited about gaining a few pounds because I have always been very thin but now it seems my body likes to pack on the pounds! I keep inspecting myself in the mirror for stretch marks. I'll probably start to cry the minute I spot one!

Re: Be honest... do you think you're vain?
I'm totally vain and it didn't take getting pregnant for me to realize it.
I've basically gone into hiding since becoming pregnant. I'm fortunate in that I'm tall and seem to be carrying rather small considering I'm going on 30 weeks (most people have no idea I'm pregnant...I hide it well. )
My DH knows I'm miserable being pregnant b/c of the physical changes, but at least he gets a laugh out of it. (Again, I've been fortunate in that my pregnancy has been smooth otherwise.) For me, this is a means to an end. Some women welcome the physical changes....not me!
