Beaches that allow Dogs??
Anyone know of any beaches that allow dogs?? We live in Nassau and once a year go to east hampton for a long weekend so the dogs can swim in the bay beaches (they allow dogs all year round). Our dogs LOVE to swim and have the best time at the beach -- I hope there is another one closer to us that allows dogs -- anyone know???

Dog-friendly beaches
Atlantic Beach
Dogs on a leash are allowed on the beach only during the off-season, from Oct. 1 through March 31. Dogs are not permitted on the boardwalk at any time.
Heckscher State Park in East Islip Dogs on a leash no longer than 6 feet are allowed on the beach, access in undeveloped areas only. Dogs are not permitted in camping, bathing and picnic areas, in buildings or on walkways.
Fire Island National Seashore Dogs are permitted, but must be kept leashed and are not allowed in public buildings, on lifeguarded beaches or near areas closed for endangered species.
Ocean Beach in Fire Island Dogs on a leash are allowed on the beach only during the off-season, from September 16 through May 14.
Town-owned beaches in Southampton Dogs are allowed on all town-owned beaches only between October 1st and April 1st.
Also Coindre Hall in Huntington, there is a small section that some people bring their dogs down to the water (unofficially it's for the dogs).

Re: Beaches that allow Dogs??
Thanks so much!
Could you send me some more info on the location of the unofficial beach in huntington?
For anyone else interested in some others further out east:
East Hampton - Little Albert's Bay Dogs are allowed on the beach all year round, no restrictions.

Re: Beaches that allow Dogs??
There is a dog park on Roe Ave in Patchogue that is a beach also...
I would be careful at Coindre Hall, the cops show up randomlly and will ticket anyone who has their dog off-leash
There is also a beach in Point Lookout that allows dogs after hours - I think it may be Nickerson Beach but not 100% positive

Nickerson only allows them in the dog run which is not near the water...

Re: Beaches that allow Dogs??
There are some beaches within Southampton Town where you can take your dogs early in the morning or after 6pm..they are areas that don't have lifeguards. We take our dogs to the ocean and bays alot out here.
From their website: Southampton Town - Dogs are allowed on Ocean and Bay Beach Areas within 150 feet of an Access Road regulated as “Parking-by-Permit Only” area at all times except between July 1st through Labor Day when they are allowed only before 9:00 a.m. and after 6:00 p.m.

Ocean Beach borders on beaches that do allow dogs off leash even during the season. You just have to cross to border out of OB and make sure your dog does not run back into OB. There is a lot of space and those beaches are really nice.
