Bed Bath & Beyond - return/broken vacuum
About 3-4 years ago (not sure exactly when), I bought a Shark vacuum at BBB. I doubt I have any of the paperwork from when I bought it. It's not working right and given that a new one is relatively inexpensive, not sure it would be worth having it repaired. But I know BBB used to take back pretty much anything. Has that changed? Can I just bring it in and say, "hey, this isn't working anymore"? Seems strange to do that. Any thoughts/ideas?
Thanks

You could try calling shark to see if they can help. My shark rocket had a small piece that broke after about a year and they sent me a replacement head (which is the whole motor basically) and I only to had to pay shipping.

Re: Bed Bath & Beyond - return/broken vacuum
Bath and beyond will check the model number on the vacuum to make sure it's a model that they sold. Then they will probably offer you a store credit and you can apply it towards anything

Shark has a 5 year warranty I believe. I would contact them and see if they repair it for you. I personally wouldn’t return a broken vacuum I had for so long

Re: Bed Bath & Beyond - return/broken vacuum
So like if I use my vacuum for 5 years and it dies from normal wear and tear, I can get a free one at BBB? Wow that's nuts.

Not really, they will give the the current sales price which would probably be a lot less that what was originally paid. You would have to pay the difference for a new one.

Yeah I get that, but I don't see why the store should have to give you anything at all for an item that you can't even prove you bought there and that you used for 5 years or more and it wore out due to normal wear and tear. Kind of ridiculous if you ask me.

Try Shark. They sent me a whole new vacuum when mine stopped working.

I brought mine in last year but was about 4 years old and the suction wasn’t 100-%. They took and back and gave me a new one. I had no box no receipt no anything.
BBB is good like that
Just call first to be sure before you lug it there. Things could have changed since last year

If it were me I would just buy a new one if it's already used, 3-4 yrs old, and relatively inexpensive. Not sure of the return policy.

Re: Bed Bath & Beyond - return/broken vacuum
They'll take it back. I actually just looked at their website to see if they had a time frame listed in their return policy and they don't.
I've returned a vacuum after a couple years because it broke. Sorry, but if I spend over $500 on a vacuum, it better last more than a couple years with normal use.

I returned my Keurig there that broke a after a few years of use...it was a gift...found out after I returned it that it came from QVC, not Bed, Bath & Beyond!!! I had just assumed! They gave me current selling price.

They don't have to, they choose to make that their policy. I worked there for a few years, years ago and they would tell us to take anything back. I know that they are making some changes to the return policy for those that abuse it.

When I worked in a dept store in the linens dept it was awful what people would return. And we had to take it.
Used toilet seats. (GAG!) Pillowcases with hairs on them (gag!) Christmas table clothes that were clearly used for the holiday, sauce and gravy stains on them, and they would pack them up after new years and return them.
People are gross and so low rent.
We would take them back, give them a credit or whatever and promptly deposit them in the garbage.
And we wonder why retail stores are failing.

Re: Bed Bath & Beyond - return/broken vacuum
I worked at BBB years ago too and we took everything back. It was unbelievable. I'll never forget a woman returned a toilet seat cause it broke while she was sitting on it. - I don't know how people aren't embarrassed returning things. Unfortunately, BBB has this type of return policy. I thought I heard they changed it, I could be wrong though, that if you return something without a receipt you get a store credit but the item automatically gets discounted 20%.

Bed Bath & Beyond - return/broken vacuum
BBB will take anything back. I used to work a few blocks from the one on first ave. My coworkers and I had a list of things we used to see people return.
The first blender ever made Wet beach towels Candy bars Open packs of diapers (the poop came out- that was the reason) Mildewed shower curtains An open box of tampons
My baby monitor stopped working while I was on maternity leave and I brought it to the buy buy baby in garden city and they wouldn’t take it back. My first day back to work I brought it to first ave where they handed me $200 cash and gave me a 20% off entire purchase coupon for my troubles.

Lmao yesterday I went because I was returning some upopened china pieces from my bridal shower (5 years ago! LOL) but there was a lady returning a comforter that looked like it had been through at least 3 years of use. It was all faded. I was shocked that they would take it back.

This! It is their policy and that's the only reason why I shop there. I can get pretty much anything for cheaper. I don't see why anyone has to agree with it unless they are the CEO.

Bed Bath & Beyond - return/broken vacuum
I’ve taken advantage of this return policy many times...however I’ve also purchased items there that were clearly used, returned, and put back on the shelf. Now I inspect everything before I buy it.

That's disgusting. And if that is truly their policy I will be thinking twice about shopping there.

BBB changed their policy in 2015, if you don't have a receipt they deduct 20% from the store credit amount

I personally would not do it, but I might give it a try. Appliances aren’t made very well these days.

I returned one that I bought a year or 2 later because something broke on it. I had no receipt and they took it in exchange for the same model.
